Didn't see a thread here about this game yet so I thought I'd start one.
I've never played the original Excitebike on the NES or whatever it was on, so this game is all new to me.
I've played a few tracks now and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Managed to get #1 on Track 2.
Seems the only controls are up and down to change lanes, and two buttons, Accelerate and Turbo.
Looks like Accelerate is the button to keep you going and Turbo makes you go a bit faster but heats up your engine.
From what I've experienced, Accelerate takes priority over Turbo when both buttons are held down.
A good strategy seems to be to hold both buttons and just release Accelerate when you want to go that bit faster for a jump or something.
I re-mapped my controls so that right shoulder button is Accelerate and left shoulder button is Turbo.
Just having a look at the course editor now. Looks like you get 32 slots for custom courses.
1-1 to 1-4, then 2-1 to 2-4 and so on through to 8-1 to 8-4.
Just discovered that Selection A means you ride by yourself just trying for the best time and Selection B pits you against AI opponents.
Hmmm, the AI opponents really get away at the start! There must be some kind of boost trick by pressing a button at just the right time.

My SpotPass has stopped working.
07 June 2011 - 03:43 AM
I don't seem to be getting any SpotPass notifications or content anymore.
I got the first two Samurai Warriors: Chronicles ones, but I've had nothing in the last 3 weeks, and I haven't had any message about the upcoming system update either.
I've tried switching the wireless off and on again a few times, and even deleting the wireless connection and making it again from the start.
The connection test says the connection is working properly, and my friends list seems to be working, it shows how recently my friends have been online, though it isn't showing any online right now. I only have 13 entries in my friends list so maybe they really are all offline at the moment.
Anyone got any suggestions on how I can get SpotPass working again?

It's just gone half past midnight here in Australia which makes it April Fools Day now.
Just thought I'd get in first with a blatantly obvious one before anyone posts anything half-believable and annoys a whole lot of people.

I think my SD card is corrupted
31 March 2011 - 03:26 AM
I bought a cheap USB SD card reader yesterday in preparation for getting my 3DS today.
After taking some photos with my 3DS I wanted to have a look at the contents of the SD card with my computer.
On my linux machine I plugged the USB card reader in with the SD car in it and the OS didn't even recognise that it was there.
On my windows machine I did the same and it found it, but said it needed to be formatted before it could be read.
I decided not to format it just yet.
At this point I put the SD card back in the 3DS and checked that the photos were still there, they were.
I copied the photos to the internal memory of the 3DS so I wouldn't lose them when I formatted.
Put the card back in the USB reader on my windows machine and told it to format.
At the end of the formatting process it said that the format had failed.
Tried clicking on the drive again and got the same "needs to be formatted" message as before.
Tried formatting again and again it failed.
Put the SD card back in the 3DS and now when I open the camera app it says "The device inserted in the SD Card slot cannotbe used. (OK)"
If I go into Settings, Data Management, 3DS, Extra Data, it shjows SD card with 0 open blocks.
Is there a way to format the SD card through the 3DS like the PSP can do for its Memory Stick?

3rd Party Battery Solutions
28 March 2011 - 07:06 AM
There are a few different 3rd party battery solutions available for the 3DS now.
I'd like to compare the specifications of each to determine which are the better options.
Some of them replace the stock 1300mAh battery of the 3DS and others work along side it.

Nyko Power Pak+
???mAh. The website doesn't seem to list the capacity of the battery as a number.
It simply says it has double the capacity of the stock battery.
I believe this one replaces the stock battery, so that would be 2x1300mAh
Total of 2600mAh.

Universal Gadget Wrist Charger
1500mAh
Works along side the 3DS battery, so that's 1300mAh original plus 1500mAh from this device.
Total of 2800mAh.

Hyperkin Battery Pack
1800mAh according to the packaging, but the actual battery itself seems to have 1300mAh printed on it.
Lets give them the benefit of the doubt and work with the higher figure.
This one looks like it replaces the stock battery, so we just get whatever its capacity is.
Total of 1800mAh if the packaging is to be believed.

Anyone know of any other 3rd party battery solutions available?
