Wait wait wait... you're making this as an update thread and not just general chit chat? You gotta do a little bit better than Contact, Lost in Blue, and Wizard of Oz. They were kind-of big when they did release. They made splash... Its just its 2012... I'd argue that they're more forgotten than they are obscure. Lost in Blue had 3 games on the DS and one on the Wii. Games that aren't well-known don't get more games, especially 3 more...

And Contact got buzz because not only was it one of the few NinWifi games at the time, but it was an Atlus RPG. And Atlus, especially Atlus RPGs don't go unnoticed.

And before RIZOAWD even released in Japan, it got alot of talk just because it was based off Wizard of Oz, and made more splash when announced for English, was pretty popular among RPG enthusiast with a DS.

The only real reason these games aren't talked about are either because they're old and forgotten, or never received proper advertisement to appeal to gamers who aren't aware of every release. I'd say they're more known among everyone than you might think.

Though the honorable mentions will probably attract people who aren't active in the culture, system, genres...

Well, actually, I've seen that BTYBR is pretty obscure now because it was only a limited quantity release and never received proper advertisement (sure, there's a trailer for it, but it's so poor that I could make something better in Windows Movie Maker for the Windows 98). I've been following a friend's tumblr account and when she posted screens and video of the game, a lot of people said things like "Woah, this looks cool. Never heard of this!" And these are people who boast upon their knowledge of games.

Even if it's not obscure in America or Europe, I can at least consider it to be obscure in Japan, due to its release coinciding with that of Mother 3. It was basically overshadowed by a much better game didn't sell well and if that doesn't make a game obscure, I don't know what does.

...Also, I'm still updating the list. I'm not really good at these things. Maybe I should have a rating system or something.

Edit) Which I've now added. Now vote as you please.

Eh.... I don't know... maybe Oz is considered obscure... but I know it was one of those games that many people were waiting for. Like I stated before somewhere else... I pretty much know most DS games' release dates weeks-months in advance at like all times. And I know that the game had it's fair share of blog/news articles via IGN, DS-Fanfoy, (now joystiq), and other miscellaneous sites. I'd say I'm one of the rare ones like that. To me, through my point of view, I only view games as obscure when they totally surprise me after they released, not before it. The games that hit the DS Release scene/list that I never saw coming are the games that I claim myself are obscure. Which is actually not many...

I suspect with this topic, no matter what anyone posts, there's gonna be at least someone who pipes up with "Nuh-Uh! That's not obscure, I heard about it years ago, and you suck!"

Obscure - Adjective -/əbˈskyo͝or/ - Not important or well known.

Going by that definition, what kinds of obscure games are on the Nintendo DS?
40+ Votes: VERY OBSCURE
30-39 Votes: OBSCURE
20-29 Votes: KIND OF OBSCURE
10-19 Votes: SLIGHTLY OBSCURE
0-9 Votes: MAYBE OBSCURE

Wait a minute...so you're saying that the more votes a game gets (in other words, the more times it's mentioned, and therefore the more well-known it is), the more obscure it is?

I''m sorry, could you make those letters a little bit bigger? I can't read them.
Oh, and if you want a difficult game: Totally Spies. (I''m not kidding, I was stuck =P)

Oops! I wasn't thinking on that one!

However, if I list it the other way then no one will vote. They'll just add new games and never +1 games already on the list.

Dungeon Explorers: Warriors of the Ancient Arts (Diablo clone, got forgotten as soon as the next game came along)
Culdcept DS (Board/Trading Card game. i think very few are aware of the series, more so of the title on the DS, but we have a translation patch here that is extremely well done, even playable online against non-patched versions)

oh yeah, the more votes a title gets, the more it defeats the purpose of being "obscure". so i think the best way to go about this is to take ALL the released DS games and rate them down as people see familiar titles, so the titles with the most votes go down the list and the really obscure ones are at the top, but doing all that would be ridiculously difficult, to say the least.

Shiren The Wanderer - Mystery Dungeon (the whole series) (actually I don't think this is too obscure.. but it's not mainstream I guess) (it's a more mainstream roguelike if you will) (brackets rule)

I got a few!...this is from a thread i have elsewhere.....

"My World My Way"...
The protagonist is a snobby little S**T lookin for a prince in this rpg from Atlus...but dont be fooled this is a hardcore rpg sleeper that is pretty freakin good! It incorporates a "pout" system which allows your to chage and customize the world you play in according to how much you be a whiny lil punk! The characters and how they level up are very creative. Her parrot, for example, learns magic by having it casted on the team first, so as you level up, the bird will gradually learn more along the way. Even more of an "expanded design" idea though, is Pinky, who is a tiny blob of slime that follows Elise around. This Ditto-like shape-shifter doesn't level up, but rather gains attributes and skills based on learning mimicking enemies as well. Battle one enemy, and he will gain strength, but lose the ability to wear armor. Battle another though, and he may gain the ability to wear armor again, keep his strength, but sacrifice two hit points for his max health. This sort of juggling technique is used to step him up level by level in a very unconventional, but very unique and balanced way. If you want Pinky as a magic caster, just fight magic users and have him learn from them. If you want him as a fast-paced, giant-weapon-wielding psycho , improve on his speed and strength and he'll be more of an asset than Elise is. It's really a great supporting character. Anyhow a really WEIRD concept in a good way....DARE give it a shot do it for the little princess livin deep in your dark soul! LOL

"Electroplankton"
Little sperm looking critters that make melodies and cool movements I think we have a definite "weird" thread worthy rom heres a few notes on the game....."Something of a cross between a life simulation and DJ software, the program allows players to create their own music, complete with dynamic visual-effect accompaniment, by using the touch screen to manipulate cute little "plankton" characters and their various environments. Each of the ten electroplankton modes allows for distinct aural patterns, including one that can be used as a sampler, repeating whatever noise it captures through the DS microphone."

"Tingle's Rosey Rupeeland"
OKAY THEN what to say hmmmm...Flaming gay green fairy...hot elf chicks...funny wierd dialouge...construction worker with a wierd gyrating hips dance?WTF!..and all stemming from Zelda..This one definitely earned its place here!

"Super Robot Taisen OG: Endless Frontier"

"The main protagonist is a playboy with a care-free attitude, and two custom guns that are freakin' awesome. His partner is a female android with a dual-personality and deadly martial arts, as noted she's a pervert. If I go any more into it, you would want to play it even more. "

Maybe, instead of just listing votes, you do some sort of like/dislike system for this thread, then?
