I'm going to be buying a game for a friend of mine and since they've told me they don't have many PSP games, I decided I might as well look for those...

I've got a few choices to look for, but I'm not sure which to buy (if I even find them)...

What have I done to deserve this, My Lord? 2
FFIV Complete Collection
Shadow of Destiny
Cladun: This is an RPG

What games or type of games do they like?

I would go with FFIV: TCC. I'm playing it right now and I love it so far. Plus it's a classic, you can't really go wrong unless your friend is an FF hater.

Well, they talk about those four games a lot, so I just assumed they wanted them...

However, from what I understand they mostly like games that aren't shovelware, sports, or a war game (AKA Carl on Duty or Battlefield). It doesn't sound like they're really picky with genres.

I don't think they're an FF hater.

I guess that'll be the first game I look for, then, but just in case I'd like to know the next-best game, in case I can't find FFIV: TCC.

I think you should The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (NEW! Not used) or Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together instead

I agree with prowler. Although i'd recommend Jeanne D'Arc as an entry level SRPG which is bags of fun.

Although from your list i'd go with FFIV:TCC. I found the the first What Have I Done To Deserve This My Lord, IMMENSELY annoying and random. After that it really depends on whether you want a retro style adventure or a more mature puzzle and dialogue based experience. As a gift i'd probably pick Cladun before Shadow of Destiny

I keep forgetting about Jeanne D'Arc, yeah if they aren't into sRPGs that much, get that instead.

Of that list, i'd go with Cladun. It's pretty damn fun.
Granted i've never been a fan of boring turn based games, nor FF in general. So, slight bias.

Though if the person doesn't have Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Fate/extra, i'd get those instead. Both are fantastic. VC2 has a crapton of stuff to do.

Jeanne D'Arc is is one of the few games that kept me playing for hours after it's completion, when you complete the game you can basically replay the whole campaign but in the hardmode, and it's really worthwhile IMHO. Excellent SRPG, one that reminds me of Fire Emblem.

RNG? Just reminded me of FE because of the storyline, weapon triangles and general gameplay/setting.

Random Number Generator

I'm actually playing Fire Emblem on my GBA at the moment, and the way level bonuses are calculated effectively makes me want to murder people.

Alright, I'll go have a look at those first. I can't directly ask them, as it's going to be a surprise (they don't go to GBATemp, so it's okay that I've asked here), so I'll have to think like them and look at every aspect of the games.

I think they have Jeanne D'Arc, from the way they talk about it.

They once told me they watched a video of WHIDTDTML2 and it looked like immense fun. It sounds like they thought of the game as a mature puzzle and dialogue based experience.

I don't know if they have Valkyria Chronicles 2, let alone have even played 1 (if 2 is a direct sequel and not like some unrelated stuff, like I'm thinking it is).

And Fate/extra? I had to actually look that up because I thought it was a Japan-only game! LOL I'll think about that one. It looks fun... Might have to ask my friend to send me their PSP instead of another Xbox game next time (we borrow each others' games from time to time, but live far apart so we have to mail each other the games).

Oh right, now I remember :) Yeah, it can get pretty frustrating at times, when the game just kills one of your best characters after 20 minutes of playing..... I almost always play Fire Emblem with the ability to realtime save, else I usually ragequit after 20-25 chapters.

I was going to recommend this. I actually bought this game after I pirated it.

Valkria Chronicles II is excellent as well. I also bought the game after pirating it.

MGS: Peace Walker is fucking fantastic. I was going to buy it if it weren't for the MGS collection.
