I have a question. Sorry if it seems n00b or has already been answered, couldn't find any.

Install the DML WAD with a WAD Manager, this will overwrite the current MIOS/cMIOS. Retail gamecube discs will still work since DMLr19. If you had a cMIOS installed before to play disc backups it wont be possible anymore until you re-install the cMIOS which will overwrite DML.

I do, however, have a Wiikey modchip in my Wii as well. Does this mean I could still run backup discs, even if I install this DML WAD?
Yes, with a modchip your wii will not be able to tell the difference between burned and retail disks so you will be able to run burned backups, too.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll try this out. Oh, and I just thought of another question. I read you need to have a disc in the Wii when booting the game. Will this disc stop spinning once the game is loaded? What happens if ejected?

EDIT: Got it working and thus answered my own question, works fine to take the disc out! Yay! Gotta get a bigger SD card..

This was working fine on my wii yesterday but now It just gets stuck on a "Loading apploader..." screen. I've changed nothing on my wii. I've tried converting the games again and formatting the sd card but it still doesn't work.

Make sure you have a disc inserted, otherwise your Wii will simply reset if you try to play a game.

Is this still valid or was it for an older version? Because I just accidentally forgot to put a disc in, but it still booted the game perfectly.

EDIT: Oh nvm. I just read in the compatibility list that some games work without, some doesn't.

Actually, with the new 1.x versions practically all games that don't use streaming audio will now work without a disk in.
There reportedly are a few exceptions that will just wait for you to put one in to start but then you can take the disk back out again and play.

It's strange but my 16gb class 4 sandisk card didn't work but a lower capacity card did work.

I tried using the GameCube ISO compress utility to make Animal Crossing smaller it's actual size (17MB opposed to 1.4GB), but after running it, it says it was a success, but there is no resulting compressed ISO file, and the ISO I put in is the same size.

Is there a utility to actually shrink it in terms of file size on the SD card?

It never overwrites the existing iso file, it will always create a new folder which contains the compressed game.

Seems I figured it out, it's a bit convoluted, this process you have to use GCReEx to extract, then re-pack the game ISO, but it works.

Actually, if the backup loader you're using supports it you should be able to just leave it un-packed (just a bunch of files in a folder) and it will actually run it faster that way.
