I got my PSP 2000 last year, pre-owned and with a couple of dead pixels for £49.99 - a pretty good deal! But to be fair the store were just desperate to get rid of them; apparently PSPs don't sell too well where i'm from.
Anyway, there are so many decent games to play that it really is worth it, and doubly so if you've got PS+ or just like buying some of the minis on PSN. Honestly I would never play half those games on a PS3, but they're almost worth it when you're on a train. If you're into sports games, the PSP version of WWE All Stars was really good, as was the Smackdown before that which they put a lot of work into. But FIFA and PES have stalled completely and have changed almost nothing in the past three years... though PES is basically the same game as PES5 so maybe it's for the best!

I've got a PSP Go (16Gb+16Gb M2) and an older PSP 1004. The Go is by far superior for the memory possibilities (you already have 16 Gb on the device and that is more than enough for quite a few things). If you're thinking about the x000 series, I'd go for the 3000 regardless of firmware (new and old alike can be hacked). If you're thinking about the temporary or permanent CFW, there isn't really that much a difference. The temporary takes about 5 seconds to activate and works just like a permanent after that (unless you shut down the console). Works in sleep mode too.
Regarding the idea of buying the console, my advice is go for it! The PSP emulators are out of this world when compared to the DS alternatives. GBA for example works like magic compared to the DSTwo emulator. Also other nice homebrew are available. |

Both, I've heard issues of some homebrew not being able to load all their files and others looking in ms0: or whatever instead. Or maybe it was that they wouldn't look on the M2 because it was the second storage? Something like that.
