I did not had yet the time to test it but anyway, congrats to Razored for porting this out, an emulator masterpiece that was lacking on Wii !

From Wiibrew:

Quote

WiiMednafen is a partial port of the Mednafen [1] emulator.

Emulators supported:
  • GameBoy/GameBoy Color
  • GameBoy Advance
  • Game Gear
  • Lynx
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
  • Neo Geo Pocket
  • PC Engine (CD)/TurboGrafx 16 (CD)/SuperGrafx (Fast version)
  • PC-FX
  • Sega Master System
  • Sega Genesis
  • Virtual Boy
  • WonderSwan
It should be noted that the Virtual Boy emulation included with this emulator is much improved over WiirtualBoy. Most games now run at 100% speed without frame skipping. These improvements are due entirely to Ryphecha (Mednafen) who optimized the core emulation code in addition to eliminating idle loops on a per game basis.

I would add that Mednafen PCE/PCECD emulation is way better than Hugo which HugoGX and Wii Engine are based on. Same goes for the NES core comparing to FCE Ultra.

I also think GBA emulation is based on Visual Boy Advance and Game Gear / Master System on SMS Plus so they might not be worth integrating in this port if memory space is an issue.

*UPDATE*

Quote

version 0.1 released
  • MegaDrive/Genesis emulation
  • rewind feature for supported emulators
  • Master system FM sound support (when region set to Domestic/Japan)
  • Improved SMS/GG compatibility
  • Various bug fixes
  • Various video output improvement

I'm confused now, I'm not sure if keep using FCEUltra or this one
The only emu listed that I currently have problems is with Visual Boy Advance sound, if Mednafen probes have a better emu, I think I will jump =)

By the way it could be possible make a standalone emu for Wonderswan? I rather prefer having my emus separated.

The Virtual Boy emulation is really surprising. Great work! I thought that they would just leave it to rot.

This is a surprise! I may give this a shot if it proves to be better then what is on the wii currently. The scene hasn't been too active lately which I can understand as the wii is quite limited in what it can do but when something new arrives out on the system to try then I'm quite happy! I'll have to use my wife's computer as my SD reader is broken...which is sad.

The only reason I would use FCE ultra would be for the covers lol

Why is this a "partial" port?

How is the GBA emulation compared to VbaGX? Does it still suffer frameskipping issues on games like Final Fantasy V or Mother 3? Nevertheless, this emulator seems very promising.

Golden Sun (works well, but it has slowdowns is some summons)
Golden Sun - The Lost Age (slowdowns all the time)

still, this emu looks promising!

Very awesome for a first release! The GBA aspect looks very promising indeed. Here's hoping games like Mother 3 can run at full speed!

Fantastic! I'm loving the PCE emulation (much, much better/easier than the pre-existing options) and hope that GBA and PC-FX emulation get up to full speed in the future.

Thanks to raz0red for the hard work!

I would assume not all emulators included in Mednafen are included in this Wii port. Hence, it is only partial.

If you mean why aren't all emulators ported, main reasons would most likely be time constraints and technical limitations of the Wii (not sure what systems Mednafen emulates in its fullness, so not sure if this is an issue here or not)
