Sorry for the ignorance, but what does the "70th event" mean?
And also, when I patched it, I got a BAK file. What do I do with it? Do I change it to .nds?

i dont know is someone cares but patch works on the EU version of that game so it could also mean it works on the other versions of the game

thats just the backup the rom you dragged and drop thats the one that is patch

Events are things like walking in a door or running into a wild pokemon and battling a trainer, and yes just renamed the .bak to .nds

the bak file is just a backup of the orignal rom. it says in the first post

with this patch you can only patch the usa version, already tried it with the german rom

Not necessarily true. If it only upped it to 28 or 30 events I'd be tempted to agree with you, but in this case it ups it from 24 to 70. That sort of thing doesn't happen just by screwing around with the rom. The AP is in more than one place so apparently this patch hasn't removed the AP in it's entirety but it has removed a good portion of the AP.

From what I've heard the AP seems to be less of a rom-based-problem and more of an issue with the way that the flashcards allocate memory and Nintendo saying, "Hey, well that's interesting. . . If we program the game like 'this', it turns out that it causes 'these' flashcarts to crash. . . We should base our AP on this. And it shouldn't be fixable unless they change the way they allocate memory with a firmware upgrade (which obviously won't happen for R4 and some older carts)". I don't know exactly how this patch works but I suppose it changes part of the code that's supposed to exploit a flashcart's memory allocation method.

In any case, this does seem like progress being made towards a completely working patch (which is surprising, because I thought it couldn't be done with a patch and would only happen through firmware upgrades).

The US Rom does the same thing for me like for everything else. Still freezes but not as often.
Is the freezing still badge based? I have no save game so I couldn't test.
The patcher doesn't patch EU Roms. Kinda wierd since the AP is the same....
