RANKS
The ranking system uses your postcount to determine what rank you land in. After reaching 500 posts, members are able to set a custom member title, which replaces the default rank title.
Note that certain member groups have a group icon (see below), which override the default rank ribbons regardless of what rank they have.

# Posts# Ribbons (pips)Rank NameBonus
0 postsnewbie
10 postsmember
50 postsadvanced member
100 postsgbatemp regulargroup will be members instead of newcomers (members can access the shoutbox and trading forums)
300 postsgbatemp fan
500 postsgbatemp advance fancustomizable title (change it in My controls, edit profile info; skin must be V3)
1000 postsgbatemp maniac
1500 posts gbatemp advanced maniac
2000 postsgbatemp addict
3000 postsgbatemp psycho!
5000 postsgbatemp guru
10000 postsflooder
????? posts????????????????

(green) ribbon
The first kind of ribbon you get. You can get up to 5 green ribbons.

red ribbon
The first red ribbon is aquired after 1,000 posts. You get a second one at 1,500 posts and another one at 2,000.

blue ribbon
You get this ribbon (pip) after you get 3,000 posts (and a second one at 5,000). This is (as far as we know) the last kind of ribbon to get.

GROUPS
All members are divided in certain groups. Unlike the ranking system, groups are not based on post count (with exception of 2), and can only be altered by Administrators. If a group has a group icon, this will replace the default rank ribbons.

Administrating Staff
Administrators manage all the technical details of the forum (forum layout, promotions, rules management, name changes, ....). They also have global moderating abilities.
Their abilities include:
  • Banning users
  • Changing member names
  • Managing User groups (promotions/demotions) and ranks
  • Assigning Moderators to forums
  • Managing Forum Layout/Structure
  • Managing BBcode/Emoticons/Post Icons
  • Altering Word filters
  • Resetting User Passwords
  • Grant/Revoke PM ability to users
  • .....

Administrators
Administrators are the owners of the site. They have the highest rank and can change virtually everything.

Supervisors
Supervisors are tasked to Supervise the other (non-Admin) staff members and the forums. They have access the the Admin Control Panel, and can perform most of the tasks that Global Moderators cannot do (banning, name changes, account deletion, ...). Sometimes called Co-Admins.

Main Moderating Staff
Moderators are special users who have the ability to alter other users' posts in order to keep the forum clean from Spam, Vandalism, ... They also keep the forum structured by moving topics to the correct place and by promoting the most important topics to stickies.
Their abilities include:
  • Editing, merging or removing other people's posts.
  • (Un)Locking topics
  • Moving and Pinning (Stickying) topics.
  • Warning Users
  • Suspending Users

Global Moderators
Global moderators can moderate all forums of GBAtemp. They also have some other additional rights on Moderators, like the ability to check IPs, and to edit members' signatures.

Moderators
Moderators can moderate forums that are assigned to them by an Administrator. If there is a problem in a certain section, you should contact a moderator assigned to that section (listed after "Forum Led by" on the board index).

Content Staff
The Content staff is responsible for posting content to the GBAtemp home page. They mainly post news topics, and write reviews for the GBAtemp review center. While all content staff groups have moderating rights, it is not up to them to moderate the forums.

Editor in Chief
The "leader" of the Magazine & News Staff, who decides what should be posted and what not. The Editor in Chief is able to manage the members of the Reporters and Reviewers groups.

Reviewers
Reviewers are members of the Staff that are focused on writing reviews. They can use some special Review Center features to manage their reviews.

Reporters
The Reporters post news and releases directly on the portal. They can also approve user submitted news. While they can moderate the News sections, they can not handle reports, and don't hand out warnings either.

Other Staff
The various other Staff groups.

Podcast Crew
Members of this group create the GBAtemp podcast (aka Tempcast).

#GBAtemp.net IRC Staff
They have op (operator) rights on the #GBAtemp.net IRC channel.

Former Staff
Members with this group are usually high-ranked staff members who retired. They still have access to the staff forums. Some of them still have Moderating or Administrating abilities, but do not have any responsibilities.

Normal Registered Members
Most registered users will land in one of the following groups.

Newcomers
People with less than 100 posts go in this group. They will stay in this group, no matter how long ago they registered.

Members
Once you get 100 posts, you will automatically be placed in the members group. Members can use the shoutbox and trading forum.

Validating
Members that haven't entered a valid e-mail adress come in this group. They can never leave this group unless they change the mail adress to a valid one and then contact an Admin.

Infractions
Registered members with less permissions that usual.

Suspended
Suspended people cannot view or post on GBAtemp. They can come back after a specific time. Also known as temporary ban on some other forums.

Banned!
Members that are banned cannot view the forum or post. Sometimes, they are also banned from the IRC channels and Wiki. Bans are permanent (they never expire). On some other forums known as permanent ban.

Other groups
Guests
Unregistered visitors of the site and members that are not logged in belong to this group. Guests cannot make posts and will not see Avatars and Signatures.

Cheat code Crew (No longer in use)
The CCC is responsible for the massive cheat code database at http://cheats.gbatemp.net

Blacklisted Traders
These people have scammed or attempted to scam people in the Trading Forums. They can not access the Trading Forums and have some other restrictions as well.

Advanced
Members can be temporary placed in this group to grant them some advantages over other members without giving them access to Staff Boards.

FAQ

Are there any other ways (besides posting) to get more ribbons (or a higher rank in general) ?
No, the rank system is completely based on postcount.

Do I only get a bonus for 100 and 500 posts (like stated above) ?
Who knows :ninja:

Can I trade posts for bonuses?
No.

Hey! You use HTML in your post! How do you do that?
Only Staff members can use HTML in their posts.

How do I become a Moderator (or Staff in general)?
Moderators a chosen by the current staff. Generally, they choose people who contribute a lot (as in: make a lot of non-spam posts) and can remain active for longer periods. Of course, having a good behavior (no or few warns) is also important.

What can you get suspended for?
For breaking the rules frequently, but not breaking them hard enough to get banned. Most of the time, you get suspended if you got multiple warnings on a short period of time, or when breaking a more important rule (like posting ROM sites).

And when do I get banned?
People who keep breaking the rules (even after being suspended already), spam the boards or gain 100% warn level (5-10 warns) get banned from the forums. Note that you can get banned at any time when the staff deems this necessary.

If I get banned, can I ever return?
No, bans are permanent (unlike suspensions).

Then can I make a new account after I got banned and start fresh?
No, you are only allowed to have 1 account. Once you're banned, that's the end for you!

Serious? I might average a thousand posts a year. Making me nearly a middle aged man with a hundred bucks in his pocket. I'd buy ice cream for all of my friends. No wait, I won't have any friends because I was busy posting @ gbatemp for 10 years. sleep.gif

And thats how 40 year olds that still live in their mothers basement are made...

Doesn't matter. We'll still ban him when he gets to 10,000. Although we like to call it 'retiring' smileipb2.png
