That is a fairly serious boost for a few paltry MHz (it is probably somewhat more theoretical boost though such things tend to be with a lot of graphics card numbers). Wonder if they actually changed things or just altered their would be yield/cut-off limits.

Yeah this thing is still goin to suck so much. PS4 is goin to win big time.

How do you figure?

I mean if it still had the same policies from earlier this year than yeah. But right now it's starting to turn itself around and shaping up into a better console.

Well, I kinda agree with that but, its just the fact that they ruined windows with windows 8, and the fact that the xbox one is going to be $100 more then the ps4 and its going to be ripping off the specs for the ps4 too. Thats why I'm a little agent the new xbox.

Windows 8 is not bad. It is not good either. It is just meh...

Windows 7 and 8 are not better than Vista. They just use artificial handicaps in order to seem "improved". For example Windows 7 was an improvement on Vista simply because they made the windows manager *feel* a little snapier and removed some services from starting on boot with the default setup. Hardly justifiyng a new OS, they could be service packs for Vista... Windows 8 is even worse, there is simply no improvement on the desktop from 7, NOTHING. D3D11.2 will be 8 exclusive not because 7 can't support it, but because they need to force gamers to upgrade...

All in all, you pay more for the same things since Vista...

As for the XboxOne AKA Windows8.1 box, don't let the numbers fool you. In the end, most of the games will be about the same. 50% gpu improvement means that a game at 1080p 30fps on Xbox1 will run at 45fps on PS4 on average. Hardly the big OMG improvement. Console controllers aren't such latency sensitive, so it won't be a big deal. Most cross platfrom games will be almost identical. PS4 exclusives may be a little more impressive, but that's about it...

The PS4 GPU has 1152 shaders, the Xbone only 768. They were both supposed to be clocked to 800MHz.
768x800x2(for dual precision)=1228800 MFLOPs for Xbone
768x853x2=1310208 MFLOPs

1152x800x2=1843200 MFLOPs for PS4
768x1200x2=1843200
Therefore, Xbone GPU would need to be clocked to 1200MHz(!) to be graphically on-par with PS4.

With each iteration there is supposedly a massive emphasis on refinement of the OS kernel which should result in performance improvements as well as lowering the system requirements. As a result we can now run cut down versions of Win8 on hardware that would have no hope of running Vista.

Admittedly they could role the updated Kernel into the old OS and in fact they did this with server 2008 and produced Vista SP1. Carrying on win7 would have been vista SP2 and Win8 SP3. I guess at some point they wanted to stop giving away years of program optimizations for free and actually make some money.

Nope. Windows 8 and 7 use the exact same kernel... There is no "refinement" of the kernel in reality. Just better/more mature device drivers (largely irrelevant of Microsoft effort), a smarter window manager, better default settings etc. Nothing code-related.

As for the hardware running Win8, it is not because of refinements, the hardware just got better. Windows 8 has the same hardware requirements as Vista. In 2007 though, those hardware requirements were hard to find on tablets/consoles...

Windows 7 uses Kernel version 6.1, Windows 8 uses 6.2 and Windows 8.1 uses 6.3 and there most certainly are differences between them. And he meant physically the same hardware. Hardware sitting in a warehouse doesn't magically get better over time.

I don't really see the care for the GPU capabilities when both sides have gone on record stating that they're fine with their games running at 720p.

Nothing quite like a stretched out pixelated look to complement next-gen graphics D:

This just in, the CPU clock was increased as well, from the stock 1.6GHz (with which it already suffered some overheating issues) to 1.75GHz. Prepare your cardboard coffins for RROD 2.0. :tpi:

That being said, apparently the system now adjusts the fan speed, stepping and whatnot to prevent overheating... Meaning it does what PC's have been doing for quite some time now. :D

People needs to stop using FLOPS to measure gaming performance. FLOPS has nothing to do with gaming performance.

Example, GTX 480 is measured to have 1345 GFLOPS, while HD5870 is measured to have 2702 GFLOPS. In reality, GTX 480 is average to be 15% faster than HD5870 when it comes to gaming performance.
