Hardware Will A NTSC PS3 slim blu-ray drive work on a Japanese Ps3 Slim?

Hi so I have a ps3 (NTSC) that overheats and tried changing the psu to no avil, My friend sold me his Japanese ps3, everything works on it except the blu-ray drive, so I can't play physical games, if I were to replace the drive with the NTSC one would it work on the Japanese PS3?
