Ok after i see that testresults i think the chunck-size is 10 but i think a better chun-size is anywhere between @10 and @20. So i think i will do make test this weeken with that chunk-sizes. Maybe anyone has the time to try that before ....

I think about that:[*] First wit tries to determine the allowed memory usage:[*]If the new option "--mem size" is set with size>0 it defines a soft memory limit.[*] If not set wit tries to read the environment variable WIT_MEM.[*] If not set wit tries to discover the real RAM size and uses half of it as soft limit.[*] If all fails, 512 MiB is the limit.[*] With this soft limit wit defines a default compression level + chunk size combination for each compression method.[*] The defaults can be overwritten with the environment variables WIT_OPT and WWT_OPT (this works for all options).

Wii Chess is a very small game (~25mb). At this moment the same test is runnung for Zelda (1.1G) and for Tomb Raider (3.1G). This needs many hours ....

It seems that LZMA2 has little advantages if uncompressing. The compression level for LZMA1/2 is insignificant. BZIP2 needs much more time.

Have anyone of the testers problems with WIA?
All my tests (convert to + convert from + compare) run without errors. I have also made some tests with --raw.

The defaults are: LZMA, compression level .5, chunk factor @20 (=40 MiB)
(see latest beta for details)

If no one cries then I will create a non beta release with a non beta WIA in a few days.

Hi Wiimm,

I'm not very up-to-date with wit at the moment, and I'm probably using the wrong command, but, is anything >LZMA.7 not supported anymore?

I'd been using :

Code:
wit COPY *GAMEID* --wia -vvvv --compr LZMA.9 ~/wii\ games/%+

That would work in previous versions (I'm currently r1892) - But that same command now gives :

Code:
wit: Wiimms ISO Tool v1.19a.beta6 r1892 i386 - Dirk Clemens - 2010-10-21

--snip--

* COPY+SCRUB 1/1 WDF:Kid Adventures - Sky Captain [SSTEG9].wdf -> WIA:/home/matt/wii games/Kid Adventures - Sky Captain [SSTEG9].wia
ÂÂCompression mode: LZMA.7@20 (method LZMA, level 7, chunk size 40 MiB, mem ~754 MiB)

So it states level 7, not 9, the same with 'level.8' - Is that correct, or am I inputting it wrong?

Hi,
more than 2 month ago I have implemented WIA. Can anyone give me some WIA experience report?

I want to know:
- Does anyone using this new format?
- Are there any problems?
- What are the space reduction rates?
- If copying back to the original file format, is the content the same?

I was just about to make it my main format, now that I know how to copy + scrub in one go from ISOs.

With compression "none" and LZMA1 "ultra" compression from 7-zip, the 90% space saving estimate seems about right. The House of the Dead 2 and 3 is another outlier: around 40% of original size with LZMA Ultra.

I have yet to really compare Bzip2, LZMA, LZMA2, Arc, and Rar, but it's on my agenda. I think I'll skip Bzip2 and Rar altogether because they're known to be poor compression choices compared to the others.

My future plans include comparing the compression formats on a decent size collection (10 games or so). Any more tests and I'd go mad, my PC is not fast enough to cope. I will also ensure that the before and after WIA hashes match. (Cleanrip -> ISO -> WIA -> ISO)

I'd also like to thank Giantpune again for teaching me about update partitions. I can delete those without guilt. One more question: when scrubbing an ISO (leaving the disc 4.3GB for a single layer but zeroing out garbage), is fakesigning still required? As I understand it, trimming (removing garbage data and shrinking the ISO) requires fakesigning, while scrubbing does not.

scrubbing doesnt require fakesigning simply because those are unused sectors. by definition, they are never read by the game. it doent matter what is there.

about the WIA, I have only used it on 3 or 4 games for testing. i went from .iso and .wbfs to different versions of .wia, then used some commands live wit DUMP, and then converted back to .wbfs and did wit VERIFY. everything seemed to work fine. i personally wont be using it too much as i already have a copy of my games on the retail disc and whatever format is being used to play the game. i probably wont be needing a backup backup.

Hi,

1. Yes. I had all my games archived in .wdf format, but have been changing that to .wia because I see it saving so much more space
2. I haven't experianced any, but I'm only using one compression rate (LZMA.9) so haven't tested others.
3. Heres a few games and the difference in size below...
4. I took a game and went from .wdf > .wia > .wbfs >.wdf and the files where the same and VERIFY says OK

How can I convert a .wia file to a .iso???
wit copy image.wia image.iso

more details: http://wit.wiimm.de/...ages.html#write
I need your help. Recently, I am trying to convert a game from .wia format to .iso format. I have tried using: wit copy ZeldaSkyward.wia ZeldaSkyward2.iso //// The error it gives is this: ERROR #24 [CAN'T OPEN FILE] in SetupReadSF() @ src/lib-sf.c#339 Can't open file: ZeldaSkyward.wia
I am kinda in a hurry so, if anyone can help, please post here on how to do this. PS: I am using the most updated version of wit.
