I understand the point of sky3ds and if I ever needed a cart I would get the sky3ds,but seriously what is the point of gateway? I came into the 3ds scene in july so I may be a bit late, but did gateway come out before CFW or what is their selling point if CFW can do everything gateway can?

Gateway came before CFW and was the first piracy flashcard for 3ds games and the only thing gateway can do that CFW cant if run .3ds roms and not just CIA so its easier to set up

Yes. I bought one for that reason.
In addition to that, I find it a bit more convenient to load roms instead of cias, but that's a matter of opinion anyway... Overall, I do like my Gateway and I would not sell it at this point.

There's also the fact that they are working on an ingame cheat menu, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

how are either gw or cfw pointless? It does more than sky3ds ever will.

You just say there's a point to gateway because you bought one before cfw and now you wasted your money. You just justify your purchase by saying it's useful. There is no point whatsoever in gateway.

if it was bought before cfw appeared, how is it a waste of money?

Kids these days...

Not to mention that he was defending that fact that both CFW and GW are not useless just because of being only usable for 9.2 or below consoles. Plenty of users with those firmwares.

The only thing is useless are 3ds' with 9.3+ firmware, and sky3ds. Sky3ds still hasn't found a way to bypass the antipiracy for newer games.

I bought gw after I tried CFW. I prefer gateway over cfw. Gateway is much more stable than CFW, unlike CFW, Gateway doesn't need to have nightly build constantly made and pushed out just to please everyone. Gateway is the original CFW, the red card is just a dongle to enter emunand. CFW and gateway can't boot past 9.5 on the N3ds because of nand encryption issues. I also own a sky3ds card, which isn't all that amazing. Gateway trumps both cfw and sky3ds due to being able to load .3ds and .3dz files along with CIA installation, cheat menu support, and soon to be in game cheat menu.

9.5 is the max supported firmware version for emunand

Neither are an issue in order to play any game, online and offline.

You sound like you work for gateway. No reasonable person would spend 60$ if they hand cfw, your story makes no sense.

Plus theyre more expensive. Plus they can only run signed .3ds files. Plus they require all this template bullshit which i never bothered to figure out. We have emunand on o3DS for eshop access, kernel exploits, and all that good stuff. 9.3+, aka the only people who actually give sky3ds business, have none of it besides runing limited 3ds games.
