My Phone is like really old (S3 mini) and doesn´t support ANdroid Version 4.4 unfourtunbaly. But I really want to play Pokemon Go. Is it possible to somehow upgrade it though rooting?

Install a recovery, then install a cyanogenmod ROM, Google is your friend, go to xda-developers.com and go to the s3 section, but install for your correct version, there are two types of s3, the i9305 and i9300.

Edit: what I said except s3 mini instead of s3, sorry.

Yes. There are multiple custom ROMs for many devices. Including the S3 mini.

This is an example.

Most ROM updater scripts have an assert command at the beginning to check the model, actually, so it probably wouldn't hurt.

Only thing that can't be done is installing the wrong bootloader through ODIN3, really.

kind of.... Essentially, you install a custom recovery, wipe the /system, /data and cache partitions, and install a new, modified version of Android (since Android is open-source, it's easy to build for various devices),

In fact, fans have built relatively recent ROMs for the very first Android phone - the HTC Dream G1.

This is a video of Jellybean running on the first Android device.

I think there's a Kit Kat ROM for said device, actually.

God, it's even been ported to a CALCULATOR - the TI-Nspire CX.

-opened odin3
-plugged in phone
-after detecting I chooses the .tar.md5 in the PDA window
-klick on start
-phone reboots and nothing happened

You must enter recovery mode. Shutdown the phone and boot it while holding VOL UP, HOME and POWER.

lol I'm really dumb. I thought downloadmode would be overwritten or something so I only tried volume down + home + power.

So another problem :P
I wiped the 2 caches, and installed golden nova cm11.
Now it stuck on a blinking screen whivh says "android" for over 30 minutes. Did I fuck up something?
Edit: tried pulling out the battery and reboot, but stuck again on the same screen. I´m able to boot into cw recovery though if that helps

You also have to deal with that "Knox" bullshit with samsung galaxys
Not on the s3 Mini iirc.

Knox started being used with the S4 line iirc.

Also, who the fuck cares about Knox? x.x

It doesn't do anything either way, other than voiding the warranty but at least in Europe, doing this doesn't void the warranty cuz laws anyway.....

my galaxy s3 (regular) had it (it's installed on s3 etc with 4.2.2.) Once Knox is triggered, you can no longer downgrade firmware. So uh yeah.

uh, it was introduced with the s3 then.

Actually, Knox is NOT an anti-downgrade toggle....

It's the replacement for the download counter (which can be reset, and such was found out). Iirc, Knox uses an efuse.

You can't downgrade properly, especially on Samsungs, regardless of the existence of Knox.

I have a Galaxy S2, which does not have Knox (as it's an old, 2011 smartphone), and once I upgraded its bootloader to install the original 4.0 ROM through ODIN (I had it on 2.3) I was unable to reinstall the old package.

Anti-downgrading is not handled by Knox afaik.
