Gaming Transfer from Wii 3.2E to WiiU 5.5.1E?

Hey everyone,

I have a Wii that has run on a 1st gen WiiKey since 2006, running on 3.2E, kept off the internet to avoid any updates that might brick it or render HBC, emulators, wads etc. unusable.

My question is, is there a way I can transfer the Wii's save data to my WiiU without having to connect to the internet and updating?

Or, am I okay if I do a nand backup with bootmii, go ahead and update, and then load the nand back if something goes wrong?
