I am aware that americans price for digital and retail version of their products are roughly the same (And sometimes cheapier in the physical version), and to tell you the truth officially the situation is the same in my country, meaning both digital and retail version cost about $75 for new titles. But all I have to do is change my region to USA or Canada and I pay the same prices as you. So it's like I'm importing the digital version, without the inconvenience of paying for shipping and import taxes, and I don't have to wait some weeks until the game gets here.
An average 3DS game costs 50€ over here, I paid that amount for Fire Emblem Awakening, although in most shops it's 45€ and on the eshop it's also 45€ (but I went for the 50€ because only that one had the artbook).
I was originally going to import the game from Amazon, and I even had it pre-ordered there since it was 12€ cheaper, however there was no artbook so I bought it here.
Probably most people won't be willing to do so, but if I see a game that has a limited edition or bonus goods, I'll be willing to pay more, that's something digital versions can't do. Of course, they can give DLC, but that's not the same as an action figure, ost or an artbook.
