How about we let an experiment decide? Someone goes to #3dsdev, tells everybody there they have installed A9LH and claims they are a hacker now. If they didn't get laughed at they are a hacker alright.

If you are going to keep repeating yourself with the same copy+paste response then I'm going to ignore you and why do you want me to reiterate what I've already posted in the OP. Was it not clear enough? Just tell me what you disagree with, something more substantial than "omgesh who carzzz" please.Because you seem committed to attacking both regular end-users of homebrew as well as everyone who doesn't abide by your personal definitions.
As I asked before, why bother to make this thread if you're just going to attack anyone who disagrees?
I made quite the argument actually, you're just doing everything you can to avoid it, which is why you're resorting to childish attacks.
"Not trying to bash you but I'm going to keep attacking you so I don't actually have to address the points you're making."
Remember, the onus is on you to actually make a case for why your definitions are worth using.
By definition, they are a hacker now. What they are not, is a developer.
Dude, I have hacked multiple consoles and handhelds many times (or rather applied hacks developed by others), yet I have zero clue about hacking. How can anybody call me a hacker?By definition, they are a hacker now. What they are not, is a developer.

Alright, so if I'm a hacker, what are smealum, marcan, yellows8 et all? Supa hackas? Because I sure as hell am on a complete different level than them.Well technically you are a hacker, normal users seem to not know what it is to be a hacker/softmodder. A hacker is someone who knows their ways around things whilst a softmodder simply software mods their consoles using already known methods. Now while a softmodder can be considered a hacker and vice-versa I think it should work the way I stated. Now the developer title a completely different thing is simply writing hacks/modifications that either don't exist or are extremely difficult to do.
This has nothing to do with my point. A developer is someone who develops software, exploit, or modifications. You might not like what someone develops, but by definition, they are a developer. The developer title shouldn't be brought into this. I get extremely outraged when people call themselves developers making the dumbest shit ever. Someone made their own "CFW" in 5 minutes using MFW builder and called themselve a "developer".
Except you do have a clue about hacking. You don't have a clue about developing.Dude, I have hacked multiple consoles and handhelds many times (or rather applied hacks developed by others), yet I have zero clue about hacking. How can anybody call me a hacker?

Hacking's definition: "use a computer to gain unauthorized access to data in a system." By all means, you've achieved this.
Developing: "the process of computer programming documenting, testing, and bug fixing involved in creating and maintaining applications and frameworks resulting in a software product." This is what you haven't achieved.
By definition, you are a hacker. You can believe a hacker is whatever you want. It doesn't change its real definition.
I suggest you re-read my first response to you and actually address the points I made. You continually rely on strawmanning and putting words in my mouth so you can avoid dealing with what I'm actually saying. If you honestly believe that my argument is, as you said, "omgesh who carzzz", then I don't know what to tell you.If you are going to keep repeating yourself with the same copy+paste response then I'm going to ignore you and why do you want me to reiterate what I've already posted in the OP. Eh, I think a developer is even less awesome than a hacker. A developer is basically just a coder. Someone who develops applications for a system. But without a hacker who opens the system for development, a mere developer is useless.
Your first post is literally saying how arbitrary my definition of what a hacker is and how you didnt care. Do I need to quote what you said?I suggest you re-read my first response to you and actually address the points I made. If all you're going to do is attack me and avoid what I have to say, then I have no interest in talking with you. If you ever feel like actually being intellectually honest, then I'd be happy to respond.
Just tell me what part of what I originally said was so confusing and I'll clear it up for you. I felt it was pretty well understood and most people here dont seem to have trouble with it.Seems like a very arbitrary definition.
How do you know that the people you're talking about don't?
Why do you care what word people use to describe themselves? Why do you want everyone to use your restrictive and arbitrary definition?
I never said that anything you wrote was confusing (putting words in mouth again, as usual), and you're still refusing to actually address any of the points I made, even when you just quoted them! In case you can't read, I asked you three questions, and also prompted you to justify your definition and its use.Your first post is literally saying how arbitrary my definition of what a hacker is and how you didnt care. People are getting confused on the definition between hacker and developer.is hacking separate from being a hacker? And is hacking:
-the skills required to perform the action
or
-the actions and end-results of the action
