The new INSTALL.DAT? it's uncompressed, if you mean the old laggy one instead I tried compression only once with v1.36.00 and wasn't helpful, though I forgot the parameters, it was probably the default compression.
If it can save 20% then I'll try compressing with v2.49.32.

    IT WORKS!

lol how did they manage to improve compression from 1% to 20%? I just assumed it was the same as before.

    works2.jpg

Line 424 in UMD Patcher (v0.2b).bat:
    Code:
    cpkmakec.exe "temp\install-en" INSTALL.cpk -align=2048 -mode=FILENAME -code=UTF-8 -forcecompress -view >> debug.log 2>&1
    _________________________

NOTE: CPK archives compressed with -forcecompress using v2.49.32 cannot be extracted with the current version of quickbms.exe and cpk.bms (for now) so if you're a translator working on this, make sure to keep backups.

    EDIT: important note.

    This one? #post-7232590
You've to rename the *.xdelta file to xdelta-i.xdelta and replace the old one from the umd patcher archive.

    (xdelta-i.xdelta is for install.dat / xdelta-e.xdelta for eboot.bin)

Going away for a bit, I'll check back later, maybe I'll resume writing this script for translators since I don't have any new ideas for umd patcher now, I kept it on the todo list for a while so it deserves a bit of attention I guess.

Nice. Removed outdated links from previous posts, to be safe.

LOL... I just found something amazing: WQSG_UMD.exe doesn't increase the ISO size anymore.
It really was all because of the wrong CPK settings from before, the ISO being generated now is exactly the same file size of the original one:

    size.png

    And it works like usual:

it's ok ;) I'll be doing other stuff too for a while, there's another game I was trying to decode but it's kinda hard mode, not many people have tried it so there aren't many informations around the web.

    we're looking for asm hackers
    we need to:
    in skills:
-change that utf16 string to utf8 string (so that we'll have more space availabe.)

    in mail:
-remove the read on 'n' as '\n'
-make the text fit in dialogue box

    in script:
-remove the 79bytes limit in dialogue box (my workaround for this is add dialogue box but it's better if we just remove the limit so the text will fit the sound/voice.

    New milestone reached:
    - Complete OFS3 unpacking and repacking scripts realized by @ak0ztik

    What changes now:
    - Allows us to translate the game files directly in text format, without hex-editing:

    Here is the OPTIONS screen:

Long sentences will be rewritten to fit better in the screen (like the ones above).
Editing and translating will proceed slow but steady, keep this thread in your bookmarks and check again in a couple days to know about the progress.

Watching and lurking in this thread while rooting for you guys silently. Not a fan of SAO myself, but I'm a fan of seeing progress made. Great work on what you did so far, and kudos to you guys for not giving up on this and taking matters into your own hands.

Hi! Can I ask you to send me some samples of your OFS3 files? I want to test them with a tool I made the last year for a fan-translation (the game was Tokimeki Memorial Girl Side).

ak0ztik found a way: #post-7253369 #post-7254189 but if you still want to check, this is one of the ofs3 files: menu_other.bin most of them are matroska-like archives with more archives inside them.
    ______________

There's another archive format that needs to be decoded but you should probably ask the details directly to ak0ztik who was checking it, probably you need to know asm in order to reverse this format.

    yup we need asm hacker.
no id tags nor pointers in the file, so probably it's all in the eboot.bin.
