So if i either exit a match or win it, the game and controller freezes on USB Loader...
I'm running a PAL Wii 4.0E(Waninkoko) and the SSBB is PAL too.
It's Weird cos i have the JAP Version too and it works flawlessly..
Anyone have the same problem or know a solution?

use rev 3 instead of 4, same thing happens in The Conduit with rev 4 when accessing the multiplayer menu but works with rev 3

use uloader with cios 222/223 selected and reinstall it with Uloader you cam also use usbloader GX to install it with 222 selected, also installing duallayer games with 249 rev14 breaks them.

You sure this isn't a drive spindown issue? The broken installs usually all fail in the same spots so would you mind telling us exactly which fights freeze or is it all of them?

If you didn't turn the spindown off on your drive and you are getting a screen freeze rather than an error or a blackscreen, it's very likely that it's a spindown issue. Google some software for your particular drive that gives you access to its power settings.

After messing around and tons of wading through this and a few other forums, this is what I found out:

The game will NOT work on 249. You have to have use Hermes 222 to play this.

I have the NTSC version of this game, so not sure how it would work on a PAL system or if it even makes a difference...

Here's what I did:
1. Uninstalled game from GX.
2.Changed my Global boot to 222 under the main settings menu.
3. Rebooted the wii.
4. Re-started wii and loaded USB Loader GX
5. Re-installed Smash Bros. with 222 as my global boot IOS

Game works fine now. The key to it was making sure the game was installed with 222 and not 249 as 249 causes Dual Layer games to not function correctly.

I had the EXACT same problem!
I only fixed it yesterday after a tortureful year of freezing
You might not believe but it the problem is your savegame, im guessing its corrupted somewhere and whenever the game tries to save to that part (records, stuff like that) it will freeze the console.
Try backuping your save with Savegame Manager made by Waninkoko and delete the save on your wii.
Then create a new save and try that
It worked for me, so good luck =D

I'm having this same problem the game works but playing the subspace embassy the first match mario vs kirby after winning it freezes to a black screen.

I am using:

USB Loader GX V. 1.0 r866

under settings I changed the Boot/Standard to IOS222

under game settings for SSBB I changed the IOS to 222

what do I need to do to fix this?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
