Story:
There is a Tanooki-tailed tree outside of Princess Peach's Castle, with Tanooki leaves on its branches that all of the Mushroom Kingdom is familiar with, but one night, a huge storm blows all of the Tanooki leaves off. The next morning, Princess Peach goes outside to see if the tree is okay, but during her inspection, Bowser once again kidnaps her.
Later on, Mario and three Toads (Red, Yellow, and Blue) go looking for the princess. Eventually, they discover that she is missing and the Tanooki leaves are gone too. Yellow Toad notices a hovering letter near the tree, which the group of four go to. Mario grabs and opens it, and a picture of Bowser holding Princess Peach with Tanooki leaves flying in the background pops out. The message shocks the three Toads and Mario, and immediately, Mario and the three Toads run to save Princess Peach

i wasn't impressed by it at e3 but, i watched the trailer in the eshop and the 3d made up for it. It looks kind of cartoony though - like cell shaded or something.

I'm definitely going to buy this. It's a new mario which shares a great resemblance to the 2D titles and those never let me down.

I also like how everyone voted 'HECK YEAH! IT'S MARIO!' so far.

I'm so getting this game as soon as I can.

I hope they don't fall short on powerups like they did in NSMB DS

That looks awesome.
After seeing the gameplay video, my opinion of the game totally changed.
It seems that certain levels have a open-world-ish design while others seem like linear levels.

The game seems like a cross between Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 64. I'm definitely getting this.

It's like they're finally acknowledging that the powerups in Super Mario Bros 3 are the ones we want to use most. Seeing the Raccoon leaf and Tanooki Suit again, along with the musical note blocks, were welcome sights in the trailers.

But how well it will play is what will matter most. We do not need another "Sonic 4", which while looking fantastic, never felt right controls-wise.

The game's definitely received a lot of nostalgia over the throwbacks to classic power-ups and level designs. I'm hyped for it despite people complaining about the game's flow, camera, and controls.

It's a must buy for me. Not only do I love Mario games, I have every bit of confidence this will be a AAA quality game. Plus I'm excited to see a new game built from the ground up to take advantage of the 3DS's capabilities.

The camera angle in the video is horrid. 2d/Side scrolling Mario is way better IMO.
I think this warrants an explanation. Especially since the camera angle seems to be the least intrusive and annoying a camera has ever been in a 3D Mario game. The game is being developed with pure platforming in mind, this type of angle seems to perfectly suit it. It never gets stuck behind walls, never changes abruptly (throwing off the controls), and you can actually change it anyways (there are buttons on the touch screen for the camera, and someone mentioned to me on another site that the dpad controls the camera).
