If Nintendo wants to say right out of the gate that their shooter IP was purely objective based, they wouldn't have had a death counter in the original game. You're right that so many other alternatives have a death counter, but I think we can both agree that we want to see how our teammates and opponents measure up to us. And you can only reasonably find out with a death counter and comparing them to how many kills they got.

A shooter (competitive online, anyways) will always have some degree of focus on killing. Nintendo removing the death counter is not something I see as a deterrent to get players turning their attention to the objective at hand. As a day-one fan of Splatoon 1 since launch, I appreciated the death counter and very sad to see it go in the latest version. Do I blindly focus on kills instead of going for the objective in ranked mode? Of course not, that's not how you win especially in the higher ranks. But no one would question that killing has a purpose in ranked mode more than just eliminating the threat on the field. You killing someone splats a radius of ink in your colour on the turf.

I have more of an issue with the death counter because I can't accurately pinpoint if a teammate was actually a liability or an asset. Sure, you got 8 kills which I see in the results, but what I don't see is that you died 15 times, for instance. As such, no one gets ashamed by how many times they died because no one will be able to see and judge them. And do you yourself count exactly how many times you yourself died in the heat of a match? I certainly don't, and that counter at the end would have been a good reminder of where I need to improve.

Well that makes sense. I suppose without knowing how many times someone was "killed" (Can we just say inked since that what happens? :P ) that you can determine who is not doing well. I mean is important that if a team was gonna do well that working together is important. While I never played the first game at all I wasn't aware of the situation of a kill counter, you mentioned that it was removed in this game, but like this game, something exist that didn't in the first, allowing players to communicate between teams right? (Cause hardly any wii u online games allow voice talking?) So I mean if you can talk and communicate with team members, would that not help the situation a bit?

Also I'm not trying to justify or excuse the absence of the kill counter but to try and open reason to why it was removed. Maybe something about the game is important enough to remove, but I guess the final product may speak for itself. It could just be the reason is cause is not ranked? It wasn't a complete game, maybe it will be in final product, maybe a update, who knows.

It's actually "splatted" not inked for when you die, but who cares at this point. :P I suppose the voice chat feature in Splatoon 2 will mitigate the issue of not knowing who gets splatted/not doing well, but again, not everyone is going to use that mess of a voice chat setup that Nintendo has shown us. They'll probably use Discord, actually. For competitive players entering tournaments with a legit team... sure. But I, for one, don't care for voice chat as I plan to play Splatoon casually.

As for if the death counter is only removed in turf war, apparently it is gone too in ranked battle (see my comment I posted earlier). Maybe in the final build they'll bring it back, yes, but I don't see it happening.

But if you plan to be a casual player, then is it still necessary? A casual player wouldn't concern with Kill/Death counter, that is MLG esports stuff. I play call of duty black ops II sometimes (cause I own the game) but I never concern with who dies or kills more, as long as my team wins. Then again you can tell if someone is doing bad cause there is a kill streak reward and if they haven't gotten one yet they haven't done well. Perhaps if Splatoon had such a thing, then it would also be a indicator to how well someone is doing, since the special weapon thing is a score based system is not as accurate but is still something right? (I think I need to check out black ops II again)

Maybe for you, but winning or losing isn't everything for me. I like to see how I stack up compared to the others. And I don't see how knowing how many kills/deaths you and your opponents got is strictly an MLG thing. I appreciate having those stats, at least for me.

It was wrong for me to mention that, I apologize. I just wasn't clearly understanding why the concern for it was if your approach for it was casual, that was my reason for saying it but I suppose it wasn't properly worded."

I didnt mean it just like that to tell the truth i dont even play death match on games.
I do play battlefield rush mode or war pigeon.
Rush is about planted a bomb on there station while they try to stop you.
War pigeon is kinda like foot ball. One person grabs the bird and has to run and hide until the message is writen then release it.

Modes like this i would like to see.
I understand what splatoon is. Just only seeing a few game modes and i think there could be a bit more. But will fine out when the game comes out. I heard there are some more modes.

I remember playing the original Splatoon via the online demo and that got me excited enough to pre-order on WiiU, but I didn't really get that from playing on the Switch. Maybe Splatoon just isn't my type of shooter that I want plus, the price was double of what I paid for the original so I did not have any incentive to get it -- Although, if this was my first time introduced to it I'd be hyped.

Hope that everyone else enjoys Splatoon 2.

A mode where it would just be a standard shooting game (shooting each other) with Splatoon-ness in Splatoon would be pretty cool and this is something I wish Nintendo would've included on the WiiU version.

splat stats dont matter to me although the Win-Loss is something i occasionally look at, i think they'll include that in the app. Me, i usually hold and control the middle ground because its how wins and moneys/points are accumulated, its also how i became a cake king very early in the sf

I played; I was on Team Ice Cream. It was fun, but I spent most of the time fighting people on my own team.
I do like the new splatfest music, though.

    At Home :)
I forgot to play it :( I even made a splafest post and everything.. even to the point I kept having to delete the spaltfest post of my social account because it looked stupid. I found that really annoying having to post a "splatfest" post on your social account to put it up on your spaltoon 2 squid! actually I even thought if you deleted it off your social account it deleted it off your green haired squid as well? I wasnt sure but I think it does. If you didn't like the actual spaltfest online demo you should like the main game itself, apparently the main game is way better than Splatoon 1 they say its similar to the jump of Mario Galaxy 1 to 2, its that good! The developers listened to the public because they did say the main game was very poor in Splatoon 1 so they cranked this one up 1000x better.
