Solidus Snake Voice Actor Has Passed Away

Solidus Snake x John Cygan.jpg

John Cygan, the voice actor best known for his role as Solidus Snake, has passed away at 63 after a long battle with cancer. He died on Saturday at his home in Woodland Hills according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Metal Gear Solid 2, he also portrayed characters in games like Final Fantasy XV, Mafia III, World of Warcraft: Legion, and Grand Theft Auto V. His work weren't restricted to video games either for he voiced characters in several Pixar films and played roles in TV shows like The X-Files as well.

But for gamers, he will probably be remembered through his portrayal of Solidus Snake:

Another reminder that it is a number of people's contributions woven together that make up a game into what it is. Contributors who, like everyone else, have to go through the cycle of life and death.

John Cygan leaves behind his wife, Cathy, and two children.

RIP, eventhough I wasn't a fan it's still sad news!:( I guess his voice acting is 1 of few US dubbed (in case of asia games etc.) I could stand & that's noteworthy! Such a pity.

Cancer is a motherfucker. My heart goes out to his family.
I survived my experience with the disease, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone... but I can't help but feel the 'survivors guilt' whenever I hear of anyone that wasn't as lucky as I was, especially when it's someone with a family and admired/appreciated by so many.

Cancer does not necessarily arise from occupational hazards. Actually, mutated cells can be present in your body at any time. But with a healthy immune system, they don't cause any problem. But they can be a problem when they bypass the body's check and proliferate; this can occur to anyone but depending on the origin, causes vary from smoking, diet to genetics.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

If you can find enough for it

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

I bet most people at the time still watched it in black and white
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
