I'm working on an SNES Emulator for the DS called SNESEM. It will be made entirely with PAlib.

So far I have gotten it to successfully open a ROM and read the header so it can tell if it's HiROM or LoROM, it's ROM title, the ROM Region and so on.

I am not providing a download yet however there will be a demo available soon.

I may make it open-source, but it depends if I can be bothered to add comments in or not.

Also, I know that there are already SNES Emu's for the DS out there, but I'm making this just because I like working with the SNES.

cool, will it be based on any current emulators (snes9x/zsnes/bsnes etc.) or will it be completely from scratch. Also, I know palib makes DS dev a lot easier, but it would rule out DSi mode (through sudokuhax at least) Is there any chance you would consider building it without palib?

It's completely from scratch of course! However when I need to add in support for extra's such as SuperFX and DSP I may just copy it from another SNES emu [IMG]

As for ditching PAlib, I guess that's possible, at the moment it's just text saying "Opening ROM..." "ROM Region: PAL" bla bla bla So I might consider this however I don't know.

    Thanks for your interest!

Anything I can run from the SD card on my DSi gets my interest, plus, another SNES emulator can only be a good thing [IMG]

That's right but a lot of game don't work with these, so it's always a good thing. Good luck. [IMG]

I don't think PAlib is a good choice...
NDS lacks the power to emulate other consoles just by Soft-Ware, so what you may need is about how the NDS hardwares work.
You cannot get rid of Assembly, which is VERY important for NDS.
If you love it, GO ON~! [IMG]

Good luck with all the work! it would be pretty amazing if you can get a high compatibility emulator with minor graphical glitches [IMG]

arm assembly should give you enough speed to run things, but not a high level language..

    Good luck!

Yeah, I've played some other DS SNES emu's and they work, but are really slow and have a lot of delay. The main reason I'm doing this is not really so I can play SNES on my DS, but because I enjoy trying to hack the SNES.

It may turn out that I don't bother with a full SNES emulator. I may just make it a little program where you choose a ROM and then it plays all the music tracks in the ROM. That would be quite cool.

Anyway, thanks for all the interest.

I wish you all luck and success for this project, a decent SNES emulator without dependence on special flash kits is what the DS needs. If you want I will donate some money if the games Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia/Time and Terranigma become fully playable :)

Well i hope u are really dedicated to make this one. Although there are other SNES emulators for the ds the flashcart compatibility and game compatibility isn't that great.

Thanks alot for crushing me down. I'm just a 12 year old kid who likes playing with his SNES.

I'll release the header program and then stop building it thanks to you lot. [IMG]
