Well, I recently just got a new PC, switched over to Kubunt, got Samba set up, my laptop(windows) and other windows machines in my house can connect fine to my PC, and vice versa.
However, now I cannot get my Wii to connect through Mplayer CE to watch some shows I have on a network share like I used to.
I can connect to another windows machine with this configuration
Code:
#Samba share4ÂÂ(smb4:/)
ip4=192.168.1.107
share4=SharedDocs
user4=
pass4=

when I select SMB4 from the menu, it connects, and I can play media from it.
However if I try connecting to my new computer with
Code:
#Samba share1ÂÂ(smb1:/)
ip1=192.168.1.106
share1=show
user1=
pass1=

it does not work. I have tried putting Guest for the user, guest, kloplop321\guest, KLOPLOP321\Guest, etc. with no luck.

Here is most of my samba configuration that relates to the file share

Code:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
ÂÂÂÂÂÂ preferred master = No

ÂÂÂÂÂÂ local master = No

# Authentication #
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂsecurity = share
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂencrypt passwords = false
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂmap to guest = bad user
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂguest account = kloplop

ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂpassdb backend = tdbsam
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂobey pam restrictions = yes
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂinvalid users = root
map to guest = bad user

[show]
path = /media/external/show
browseable = yes
guest ok = yes
read only = No
ÂÂÂÂÂÂcreate mask = 0777
ÂÂÂÂÂÂdirectory mask = 0777
Again, I can connect fine to my "show" share on windows computers perfectly fine(yes, even using \\192.168.1.106), just not on the wii...

Anyone have an idea of what is wrong here?

I've set up a Linux smbd with passwords and this works with mplayerce. Well, for some minutes. After that the playback stops and mplayerce freezes.

It's a bug in tinysmb. I already sent debuglogs to the team for examination.

To use linux smbd with your wii try geexbox for now. It's based on linux and plays files via smb without any problem. Maybe soon the mplayerce team can solve the smb issues...
