I've used multiple private headers containing the C2 Chip ID, I cannot figure out how to make this game work online (granted, the way I check is by going through the DLC menu). I've downloaded two different roms to test this out on, but I do own the game (apparently a 4gb sd card isnt enough to store it using a Gateway). Has this not been an issue with anyone else? I kind of want all my games on my Sky 3ds so I don't have to switch any game cards out and this game is pretty much a must for me.

I have also tried setting the Chip ID to 45 and using my Cubic Ninja Private Header (that uses the 45 Chip ID) because someone on Maxconsole said it would fix the problem, but no luck. I'm just wondering if anyone has a solution for this problem because I cant find anything.

It's alright, man. I'm kind of OCD about this now, pretty much wasted my Sunday trying out every little thing I could, maybe it's just the Rom itself. I may just have to buy a bigger SD card to rip the game myself.

When you write MH4 to your SD, remember that you need to make sure that Diskwriter has your latest template by reselecting your template, even if you have it selected already, if you make a change to it, Diskwriter won't read that change unless you choose it again. And then rescroll through all of your games on your Sky to make your sky itself be updated with the new header for that game. Even if MH4 is the only game on your Sky, press the blue button and refresh it.

As far as MH4U having online problems with the Sky, I personally just downloaded it myself and went through the tutorial and long ass cutscene at the beginning(you really need to be able to skip that) just to see if I could connect online. I have a header for every manufacturer, C2, AE, and I have two 45s, and I match each one of those headers based on the game manufacturers.

I applied my C2 header to MH4, and I just joined a..meeting hall? Guild meeting hall chat room or something like that, and it worked, I was online. So if the game works, I doubt its the rom. Make sure your template is correct.

I'm in Rome, GA :), anyways thanks for the response. Now down to a little business, I honestly havent tried advancing at all into the game, the way i've been checking was through the DLC menu after the startup, can you check and see if that section is working? Also here's my template for Monster Hunter 4 just in case

I'm going to rewrite again, and this time go through the beginning to see if multiplayer will work that way.

Edit: using a C2 private header for this game as well

Got through the beginning of the game, selected the world map option on the touch screen and then selected multiplayer. Still received the 002-0123 error, I'm just really confused as to why I'm even getting this error.

Ok, do you know the Chip ID that came with your Header?

If not, it's a guessing game. Happened to me too.

What game did you get the private header from? Go DL a fresh template file and find that game. Look at the Chip ID line. That's probably the Chip ID that goes with your private header.

If it is not C2 (Macronix) try ripping another header from your retail carts that matches the Chip ID you're looking for.

Do you understand? Use the template file as a reference to guess what Chip ID goes to your private header.

If you can dump ROMs using sysNAND 9.2 + loader.dat, you can actually find all of this out but opening the dumped ROM in ROM-Patcher and even dump the header for it.

If you don't have dumping, you're using template to guess your Chip ID.

I found that my macronix header from Kirby Deluxe worked. Then when I could dump it using Gateway Loader.dat I also found out my Chip ID had a special unknown byte. So all you need is to match the C2, AE, or 45 chip ID to header.

Got it?

We're going forwards to go backwards to get what we want.

To put what I think Osmosis is trying to say simply, use Sky Army Knife to open your .bin or .3dz file in the infos extractor tab so you can see what matches up with what. Basically if the game you ripped is C2, then that will work on C2 games. If it is AE, only on AE, and so on. I made a thread about this about a month back here:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/why-sky3ds-gets-002-0123-even-with-a-private-header.385672/

EDIT: Remember, with every change you make, you need to reopen your template in Diskwriter, and rescroll back to the game in your Sky3DS to make the sky read the new header info.

Ah, it was you that made the guide! I really appreciate it, but yes, I did follow that guide.
I've ripped a total of 3 games (using GW on my O3DS), Cubic Ninja is 45, Legend of Zelda OOT is CA, and Legend of Zelda MM is also CA

I'm not home right now to give the Mystery Bytes, Sizes, or Card Types, but as stated I don't think that matters at all.

I really appreciate the help, but it's got to be the Rom or something, I know that I'm using a CA private header for MH4. I may just have to go out and purchase an 8GB SD Card to rip my own MH4.
It seems no one has really came across this problem after using the correct Manufacturing header.

Don't confuse ppl with things you didn't understand/read properly. He's trying to get it to work on Sky3DS thus not needing 3dz extension. He must get his template file right. 3dz is only for gateway (this only tells gateway, that there is a header inside the rom. There aren't any more differences with .3ds)

CA? Hopefully you mean C2. Try reformatting your SD card and then making your own template using Sky Army Knife just for MH4 so you don't waste time.

If it helps, this is my template info for MH4U created using SAK.

00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 C7 23

EDIT: Still, you say it could be the rom, I don't really know about that, but it wouldn't hurt to try. I have a rom of the game, not my own dump, and I also trimmed it down to 2.56GB, and it still works.

I meant C2, sorry about that. I've been using SAK the whole time, but im wondering why the last two sections of your template is C7 and 23 when mine is 9E and 81?
I'm trying it one more time, this time using your template with my C2 header.

And I've been using my .bin i get from gateway patcher to see the info

WTF IT WORKED! How!? I used Renny's template and replaced the header I've been using and it worked.

The only difference in the headers are the last two sections at the very end. I was using Sky's latest template and settings.ini

Hey, I guess there's a reason that stuff is changed when you use Sky Army Knife. I don't use the original template, I have my own notepad file with template info for only the games I have, so I can be more organized. The only time I use the original template is for the base template in SAK.

Just ran mine through SAK again, still getting 9E and 81 again. Have I been using SAK wrong the whole time?

I'm basically setting the Cart ID to match the line with Sky's base template: C2 (0xC2) F0 (0xF0) 00 (0x00) 90 (0x90)

same with EEPROM ID: C2 (0xC2) 22 (0x22) 13 (0x13) 00 (Zero-Fill 0x0)

I am supposed to be using Zero Fill at the last bit of EEPROM, right? Or are you filling it in with 00 manually?

also, I'm auto-detecting the unknown ID

Thank you everyone for the help as well, much appreciated!!

Update: I finally figured out the root cause for all this, I went back to my original way with my own template created by SAK.

It turns out the whole problem was because I never clicked the verify box in discwriter... I feel completely stupid for this, but never knew it was crucial.

Again, I'm sorry guys, but maybe this could be a future step when asking about the 002-0123 errors.

That's weird. Are you sure it was because of that? Because I've never used that verify option before, and I have like 14 games per SD card.

It has to be, when I used your template for some reason I clicked that verify box. Just now, I decided to try using the same template that I've created over and over, this time clicking the verify as well.

The reason why the verify button might be so important for me is because I'm also using a micro SD converter instead of a USB.

Basically I did everything the exact same as before except this time ticking that verify box. Weird..
