I just got a switch today. During setup I wasn't able to connect it to WiFi. I've previously blocked updates via my router when I softmodded my wii u. Are these two things related? Does the switch use the same endpoints that the wii u does? Do I need to undo those to connect my switch to the internet?

Type the DNS on your Wii U, then reset the block settings on your router, update/setup/whatev, then re-set all of those block settings.

Yes, all Nintendo systems use the same servers. Blocking eShop and Updates block those servers.
