Hardware SD Card slot and HDD

Hi All

I will be getting a WII U for Christmas and was wondering if it has a SD card slot and can you connect a hdd an how do you connect it

the wii U has an SD card slot(i think it is mostly for wii mode for now)

and 4 usb ports(2 front, 2 back)

you can use a USB HDD BUT you need to power it or use a USB y-cable

the HDD is LINKED to the wii U is is formated for.
it kinda like how the ps3's internal HDD is

Nintendo has endorsed 3 hard drives with external power supply here http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/sy...general_info&submenu=wup-external-usb-devices

The Wii U also supports SD cards but as said earlier it is only for the Wii Mode.

Sorry if this is obvious but I want to be 100% sure: no USB HDD's like these would work?:
