False rumour! 3DS Successor Coming Out Later After Switch (Nintendo Q&A IR)

one person tied to the investor-side of Nintendo relayed from the company. Apparently, Switch is intended to be a home console successor (Wii U). Nintendo’s home and handheld systems are still separate, with a 3DS successor coming at some point in the future.

Now granted 'if' this is true, it's quite interesting because a 3DS successor can keep the dual screens, possibly 3D, be more portable than the switch in terms of size, better battery life than 3 hours rumoured of the switch, perhaps it can play some downports and kid friendly of course. To add more fuel, Nintendo themselves called and referred the Switch a 'home game console' during the preview teaser and this E3 gone.

It makes sense to me, but a rumour of course at this moment of time, maybe sometime next year we will see an annoucement.

That's really disappointing if it's true, the idea they were merging the platforms/library seemed to be what Nintendo needs.

It makes sense to keep them separate. The Switch, while a great idea, cannot replace the 3ds. There's too many pros of having a standalone handheld.

Strange, I would still be very content if they just merged their console and handheld divisions, since their consoles aren't getting them very far at this point. Handhelds have always been their strong point, but even in that area, they will end up losing out to mobile eventually, and then what? If their consoles fail, they can't just keep using handheld as a crutch. They're going to have to merge those departments eventually, or just go Sega.

I think "the switch" will be the 3ds successor and there will be a stronger home console or a real cool extra powered dock in the future that will bring more functions
