Every time I check this board it seems like the techniques used have completely changed.
Basically I have an old 3DS XL on 4.4 firmware that I had been using the original gateway card on (I think they made a newer version since?). Anyway I was able to grab one of those $99 New 3DS systems and was wondering what my best option is to get it running backups and possibly homebrew. Is the gateway card that I have even involved in the process anymore, can i roll back firmware even if it came from the factory with the latest version? Any advice or nudge in the right direction would be seriously appreciated.
BTW I used to be really active on these boards awhile ago but can't remember my password and the password reset email is taking forever to show up. Just to give you an idea of where my head is at the last time I was active a method was just found to be able to alter a unique code in roms so we could take them online...

To play "backups", you need to downgrade with a hardmod or DSIWare downgrade with another CFW 3DS. After doing so, you need to install A9LH, or set up an Emunand.

Your o3ds is on a hackable firmware, so you would want to use the guide by Plailect to install A9LH. After you do that, you can DSIWare downgrade your n3ds.

What I just told you is the cheaper option, but the more expensive option is a hardmod.

You can do homebrew after you install A9LH very easily, but if you don't want to install it, just find a game that can boot the Homebrew Launcher on your version, and set it up with its corresponding guide.

Thank you for the reply. So whats the deal with my old Gateway card and the New 3ds? Is it useless without the downgrade and its pretty much pointless after installing a9lh? There is no way to use the gateway card to mess around with the nand to do a downgrade?

Also I havent opened my system yet but does anyone know the stock firmware on those black friday consoles? The guide says it work with 11.2.0 but it seems like the latest firmware is 11.2.0-35 plus if there is newer firmware that isnt downgrable how will i be able to purchase the eshop game? Sorry for all the questions but the guide makes the process seem really complex

Hack your O3DS first. Then do the N3DS. If you put in the console and firmware you'll see it requires an already hacked console. That's where the O3DS comes in - which is why you do it first.

As for Gateway, yes it's pretty useless but you can still use it if you wish by following https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/ after finishing a9lh. Just note that if you accidentally update in Gateway mode on sysNAND, the N3DS would brick and the O3DS may brick and may just lose the hack depending how lucky you are. Community stuff is always best because as soon as a bug or fault comes to light it gets fixed. Whereas Gateway is rarely if ever updated, and when it is, it never addresses all the obvious problems.

Is that guide up to date? Is there any difference between downgrading 11 and 11.0.033? I know the revision of 11 patched some security exploits; are the instructions for both versions still identical?
Also the guide says that a method using just one 3ds is coming soon, how long has that message been there? Thanks again

11 means any version starting with 11 including 11.0.0-33. Both the new and old methods will not do you any good unless you bought a DSiWare hax game already, as they have all been removed from the eShop.

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
