Good day. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to ask, but here goes. The retail Bravely Default cartridge that I have uses the old save encryption method (non-KeyY 6.0 method) since I started it with my old sysNAND fw 4.5 (I used Gateway emuNAND fw 9.x to play the game, if that helps). I haven't touched my o3DS for like a year and a half, a lot have happened and I'm technically blind; now I'd like to convert my retail save into the new save encryption format to play on a new 3ds system. Is there any way to do that? I have asked for advice on another forum and received some suggestion to use savedatafiler or something but like I said, Ive just come out from a cave and had no idea where to start. Any input it greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

Read Part 5 of this guide thoroughly to understand exactly why you have to go through this.
http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-the-emunand-save-data-mega-guide-gbatemp-doesnt-deserve.378491/

If you don't already have a method of installing cia files, then run FBI.3DS from your GW card to install FBI and JKSM
FBI: http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-fbi-open-source-cia-installer.386433/
JKSM: http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/

Once you've done that, you're going to need to install rxTools found here. You'll want to pay attention to the instructions regarding MSET.
http://github.com/dukesrg/rxTools/releases (Instructions here: http://github.com/dukesrg/rxTools/)

Afterwards, run rxTools to boot into EmuNAND. Insert your copy of BD and run JKSM to export the save. You'll then want to copy the folder created by JKSM to the N3DS, which needs its own installation of CFW and JKSM. Load up CFW, insert BD, run JKSM, import save.

Thank you for the very informative reply. Yeah I already understand that if an old encrypted save is opened on a new 3ds system, it will be corrupted, that's why I've been searching for a proper way to convert the save without destroying it. I'll definitely try your suggestion out and hopefully everything will go smoothly. Allow me to recap:
1. Boot into GW mode.
2. Install fbi and JKSM (can savedatafiler work as well?)
3. Install rxTool, boot into EmuNAND and export the save
4. Update my o3ds to the current firmware (no I'm not transferring the save to another system, sr for the misinformation :D)
5. Import the save to the retail card

Are there any other details during the process I need to pay attention to?

SaveDataFiler will work, and since one of the more recent Gateway updates, you don't need rxTools anymore. Pressing select with a retail cart inserted in Gateway mode will cause it to switch to classic mode so that the retail cart can be read. CIAs will still work in this mode so that you can launch JKSM or SaveDataFiler, unlike the old classic mode which could not launch CIAs.

Updating your 3DS to the latest firmware would be a bad idea for several reasons.
1. You'll no longer be able to run CFW etc. without downgrading
2. You'd need either oothax or ninjhax to reimport the save.
You only really need any firmware between 6.x-9.2 to import the save with 6.x crypto in Gateway Mode using JKSM or SDF.

Didn't know that they finally fixed that issue with Classic Mode. I never really use it, as I just boot into Luma3DS to play retail carts.

The reason that I suggested JKSM over SDF is that JKSM is more user-friendly. I also like that it uses the name of the game instead of the titleid in its folder structure. Plus it has Play Coin Setter built into it. :P

I see, so fw 10.7 is a no-no. Just one more question, is GW still a thing now? From what i've read so far, everyone is using CFW or something of the sort, and since it lets us play both ROMs and retails and doesn't require doing the exploit every time you turn on the system. Is it more advisable to forget about GW altogether and move on to CFW or am i missing something here?

I still use my GW for .3ds/.3dz ROM support :)

Hmm okay, I thought CFW could play .3ds/.3dz files just fine; so at least my GW set will not be totally useless lol. Thanks for the help guys, really appreciated it. It's action time now! Hope I am not going to screw up my save.

Hi, OP here. I have successfully exported the save from the retail using savedatafiler while in GW mode (the sysNAND fw is still 4.5 btw). I then tried to test whether the save works by importing it to the same game installed via CIA on a different 3ds system (this one has the new sysNAND fw). It gave me a failure message, level -7 summary 4 module 17. Did I do anything wrong and if yes how can I fix it? Thank you all.

Edited: oh and I have tried importing the save both before and after creating a save from the CIA game on the new system but nothing works.
