Use ModMii to download Wii Backup Manager. It doesn't require any installation, just the files in a folder.

WBFS Manager is not good to use. It corrupts drives and I don't think it works with FAT32.

Yeah but an administrative account is required to run WBFS manager or Wii Backup Manager as the program has access to your drives etc.

For USB Loader GX? Make sure you used the v5.1 forwarder and have "Return To" set to USB Loader GX in the settings. The app folder must also be named "usbloadergx" or "usbloader_gx".

Hello guys I am a long time lurker and newbie to the wii scene(but familiar with hacking scene for most systems). I am posting because I need help. I have installed the v5.1 forwarder as a .wad from https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/ and have set "Return To" to USB Loader GX in the settings as per your instructions but whenever I exit a game (or when trying to launch the forwarder from system menu for that matter) all I get is a black screen. Can someone please advise? Additionally, the app folder is under "usbloader_gx". I am not sure what I am doing wrong and/or am missing. I am softmodded on 4.3E as per this thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/beginne...g-wiiware-vc-vackups-gamecube-backups.400975/ so I assume that means I am IOS 249 and 250. Am I missing an IOS for this to work or is it something else?

Here is my systemcheck. (I had to skip the IOS56 since it was giving me a "failed to get the stored TMD size for IOS56" error. What do you guys make of my syscheck? From what I understand you need IOS58 for forwarder right? If I have to install missing IOS's (58) I can use d2x-cios-installer for that correct? What settings would I use to install that IOS?

Would formatting to NTFS be a solution? Are there any disadvantages if I'm only using my flash drive for backups?

You can only use NTFS with Wii games. You can't run Gamecube games or homebrew from it. I would recommend using FAT32. Besides, you won't be able to format the drive without admin privileges either.

Hey, I'm having some trouble with USB Loader GX. I think I've finally figured out a solution that works for me, but it's a bit inconvenient. See, I have Priiloader send me straight to the homebrew channel, and from there I go to USB Loader GX. Problem is, whenever I do this, if I boot a game, NAND, Wii, or GC, I only get a black screen. But, if I do what I normally do, then from USB Loader GX return to Homebrew, and go back in, then everything boots normally. I've got the latest d2x cios installed in 249 and 250, as well as cios 236.

Booting to the Wii Menu, and going to Homebrew then USB Loader GX also works. I'm booting Brawl Minus, if that helps. What I've got works, but any idea how to skip this tedious process?

Edit: Nope, I was wrong. I'm able to boot games "sometimes." Going to the Homebrew Launcher works usually, but not always, and everything else works... Occasionally. When it works, it works for a while, but when it doesn't won't for a long time. I don't... I've really got no idea what's making it work sometimes and not others.

Double Edit: Problem solved. Be careful with crappy pharmacy USB drives, the tend to have compatibility issues.

I have the latest USB Loader GX and I have 2 games that worked for a few days and now they get the black screen. I reloaded one from WBFS and it works again, but the other one does not after a reload. Why would a game work and then just stop loading and give me the black screen? Any suggestion on changing any settings?

The download is fine Eternal Darkness is one of the few games that doesn't work from a burned disc. You could put it on a usb flash drive and then it'll work.

Little bit different format though if you do that. Make sure your flash drive is fat32 format and then create a folder on the flash drive called <games> then make a folder inside <games> in it doesn't matter what you call it then rename the .iso to game.iso and put it in that folder.

If you don't have a flash drive if your sd card has enough space to hold the game on it you can do the same thing from it also create folder on the sd card called <games> (has to be called games for this folder) then put a folder in it such as <Eternal Darkness> or whatever you want to call it rename Eternal Darkness' iso to game.iso (required) put it in the folder. Nintendont should read it right off the bat and you can play it.

Eternal Darkness isn't the only game that doesn't work for me. WarioWare, Super Mario Sunshine, and Twilight Princess all give the same error message (although at different points in the game).

Sounds the console is losing the connection to your drive with the game on it. If it's a flash drive try a hard drive. If it's a hard drive make sure it doesn't have any automatic sleep timers enabled and that you're using a Y-cable with both plugs connected if it's self-powered.

Eternal Darkness has mind tricks in it like telling you to close the disc cover, reconnect the controller, your saves were corrupted, etc.

The thing is, this doesn't happen to my Wii games, only to my GCN games. If the drive lost connection with the console, wouldn't that mean that my Wii games would also be susceptible too?

Not necessarily. The Wii doesn't have an operating system so every title (game or homebrew) is responsible for its own hardware management.

When I use Nintendont with USB LOADER GX on a game on my USB, it gives a "dsi exception". But if I run an iso that was burned onto a disc, it runs perfectly fine (but then gives a "disc cover is open" error). I use the default settings for USB LOADER GX. I installed IOS249[56]v10b53 so why is this happening? The USB I use is a 1.5TB Seagate FreeAgent.

Hey guys,

New here, new-ish to modding, probably dumb:

I hacked my 4.3U Wii using Letterbomb a couple months back, have been running Nintendont as well as a few other older emulators with zero problems. Last night I decided to try my hand with Wii backups and it has been kind of a nightmare.

Since I'm running my games off an SD card, I went with CFG - I've gotten it installed and opening, but when I try to play a game I get one of two errors: On IOS 250, it says "Loading game..." and then my Wii freezes. On IOS 249, I get an error saying "IOS Reload: Blocked - ERROR: setting up fragments -2 3 - ID mismatch: [SMNE01] [] (The ID should not be mismatched, but I can't rule out anything else). I currently only have one game (New Super Mario Bros) but I'm getting an ISO for another game (Donkey Kong Country Returns) as we speak so I can rule out the game. On top of games not working in CFG, I now have my Wii trying to get me to do a System Update so I can't even play my actual games.

I used this guide for d2x: https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/installation

I've had people tell me to use ModMii but to be honest I'm not really sure what I'm doing on there. None of the steps seem immediately relevant to my needs, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to be looking for exactly. I assume I'm not supposed to be reformatting anything, and all the steps I looked at seemed to want to do that? I only have a Mac so I'm unable to use it without a VM, and tbh I don't really feel comfortable going through the steps in Terminal to get the VM to read my SD card. I'll probably end up emailing myself the files to check out if ModMii is necessary, unless I need to have the entire SD card file system visible in which case I'll have to figure something else out.

Hi! I'm not the best ever at solving these kind of things, but I think I might have this issue solved.
First off, you shouldn't install those specific cios, as they are usually unneeded by most games. What I reccomend you try doing is "updating" your wii from the disc channel (NOTE: This will remove all cios- which is what we want to do- BUT it will also uninstall the Homebrew channel so you'll have to reinstall it) and then use this guide: http://gwht.wikidot.com/d2x
It will let you play backups AND won't ask you to "update" anymore from the disc channel. The cios that the guide uses are 248 and 247, fyi.

That guide is old and awkward. I wouldn't recommend it. I've honestly never seen anyone with cIOS in 247/248. How are they not needed? You can't run a Wii game from USB without one of them and some games won't run from IOS56 so you need IOS57 patched, too.

It's really very simple. Install the homebrew channel, install d2x v8 (or v10beta52 if v8 doesn't work with your drive) as IOS249[56] and IOS250[57] and you're done.

You make a very good point, but doing that makes you "update" when you try to play a disc with a 4.3/4.2 update in it (and yes I know there's priiloader and stuff but I personally don't want to edit any of that stuff so that is why I use that guide.)

You can just change the version number of the cIOS to 65535 and it won't update. The stub's version is lower than that.

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
AI assisted game creation might become a thing
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Don some VR glasses and gloves and talk to the computer and paint entire worlds
