Hacking Question on new 3DSXL and microsd card - what's the largest size?

I am reading the only microsd hc will work and not microsd xc - does this mean that 32gb is really the largest we can go (am thinking to use with gateway 3ds) or should a 64gb microsd xc work ok formatted to fat like on the old 3ds xl with the bigger SD card? Have my n3dsxl (aus) and gateway - but not ordered the microsd yet as I don't want to get one that isn't compatible. Thanks bob

i don't think anything bigger than 32gb will work, at least according to nintendo.

But the microsd card you put in the red gateway flashcart can support 64 gb atleast (i know cuz i have a 64gb microsdxc card in my red gateway card)

I'm pretty sure the format is FAT32.

Maximum volume size in Windows is 32GB for FAT32. Pretty sure this is a Windows limitation, but none the less, a limitation.

The max if you use normal Windows formatting its 32GB, but if you use another application/OS to format the card, you can use up to 128GB cards IIRC. Just got my 64GB Micro SD today and it worked perfectly after formatting it to a FAT32 primary partition.
