I found a GameCube on the trash and I picked it up and test it.

Of course it didn't work but I change the potentiometer value from 400 to 160-150 ohms.

And about 160-150 ohms the laser detect the disc and start spinning and voilà it works.

Now the question is, how good or bad is if I use the cube with 150 ohms???

150 Ohms is about the lowest they go I think. A good number for a gamecube is from about 190 to 220, so I've heard.

The worst thing that can happen is that you will burn out the laser. But since it didn't even work before, you won't be any worse off in the end if it burns out.

But it was a trash find, i'm pretty sure he isn't concerned about the laser burning out. Plus, you can buy a new laser for less than a fiver anyway. If it's between 190 and 250, it's normally okay.

No. If you've left it to 150 and it's working okay, then tweak it within 190-220 which is the sweet healthy spot. The laser is probably okay.

I have tried that but the motor does not spin unless it's at 160-150

Ah okay. Yeah, give it a clean, make sure it isn't dusty or anything. See if you can raise it a little bit more,. If you clean the laser, don't touch it directly. Use an earbud (q-tip) with a bit of isopropyl alcohol or something with a high level of alcohol like nail polish remover and give it a gentle clean.
