Worst case scenario she might need to take a picture of her phone. Still, I think you can root without formatting on old phones, so it should be easy stuff.

Anyway, I was stuck with a 2012 phone with no custom ROM and a bloated 4.1 ROM, it wasn't fun, I can't even imagine going back to such setup even for better sound lol.
