I'm most interested in seeing how Bethesda's VR titles fare. They're the first really big proper AAA games to get the full VR treatment and I really wanna see how people like 'em.

I will say this is as close as I have witnessed to VR being "good"

VR is not new at all... Being going on since the 80's as far as I know and maybe even government experiments before then (for military training stuff)

I remember the first time I tried it as a serious thing, was this basically tech demo in the mall. You shot at bugs with your hands or something I can't really remember. The only tech about it that impressed me at the time was the positional audio, it really was cool. When I asked the guy how much the computer cost to run it, he said not including the harness and thing you stood on (was a weird thing you climbed up into to put the helmet on....) just the PC was like 15K USD at that time. The graphics where like really sharp PS1 level with no fog... There was a lot of lag and it really wasn't all that great. I think I paid like 5 bucks for 2 minutes?

Fast forward to now, you still need a top of the line PC and they have made advances to get rid of the lag but there still isn't a lot of great content for it... I can count on 1 hand the number of VR Apps that so far look like "Yeah that would be awesome!!! For about 15 minutes..." One of the huge drawbacks in my opinion is wearing anything on your head for extended periods of time sucks. I wear over the head headphones for great sound, but I don't sit at my PC with them on, they get annoying after at most an hour and that's with like 5-6 breaks to let my ears get some air.

This is going to sound like tech hell but this is when VR will make it big time, computers are like 20 times faster than they are now, meaning even the low end PC's grandma owns has 10 times the power of a top of the line PC now. The glasses and tech have advanced to the point they are like 8K 120Hz per eye and have the same weight as a pair of sunglasses and will look as cool... (You gotta look cool while your doing it, or the nerd factor will kick in and no one will want it.) Then there needs to be a shit ton of content and current content should be enhanced to use on the new hardware (Like HD for old consoles now)

Basically what we have now will flop and no one will attempt it again for another 5-10 years with it gaining a bit of popularity each time but the real take off will need quantum chips and crap we just don't have yet.

Edit: I swear the unit looked like this one but was white? Maybe just this is the UK version and the US version was different style? Or trying to remember over 20 years back... lol either way here is what I think I was in... http://images.eurogamer.net/2014/livetext/1663335/vr.jpg

Early impressions lead me to believe that DOOM VR is the best of the three, because it was tailor-made for VR. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are seemingly the same games they were already, just with a few VR features thrown in.

Lol, why would we need tech that strong to drive VR? Gaming started out at like 240p or less, and VR is already at 1440p with 90hz refresh rates. Pimax is actually alternating eyes and frames, and they do 150/180hz on dual 4K panels. By the time we hit the point in the future you're referring to, we'll have polished AR and probably even holographic technology.

FYI rendering VR is considerably more hardware-intensive than rendering standard games, so barring some major breakthrough, VR will always look about a full generation back on consoles and about a half generation back on PC. The sense of presence and enemies physically towering above you is worth the slight loss in fidelity there. Certain games look exactly as good if not better in VR though, one example being Superhot.

It's still too expinsive I can do half of the things a Rift Vive and PSVR can do on a Phone that doesnt even have a Gyroscope
I'm glad somebody still remebers the
"Poor Gamer" like the Riftcat,Trinus VR DolphinVR and alot of other DIY HACKERS that do VR I used a first person cheat for SM64 got it to work on RetroArch (Android) I had to upload to r/Cardbord because It would be wrong If i Didn't. Also back to the other REAL DEVS Native SBS even though you need CM11 or 12 for It to work you can do PSVR right there so its just too expinsive to do something that I can do on my phone

Also Im doing a D.I.Y VR should I use Raspberry Pi I want to be able to connect my PS2 to it and play I know gyro wont work but just asking

No you can't. You can't even do everything Rift and Vive do on PSVR, the motion controls are garbage there. Phone VR is even worse, no positional tracking OR motion controls. Might as well buy a Virtual Boy if you're gonna be missing out on that much of a true VR experience. The point is to interact with virtual worlds, not just stare at 360 videos (which aren't even true VR).

I'm just saying I can use my Phone as a way to use that product without having to spend my hard earned money on that Brands device So Im just saying Its possible but its not the best way to do it also can you use a Wiimote PSmove or If somebodys does a way to use a DS4 gyro on a phone for motion controls and pos tracking but Im not gonna tie a Wiimote around my ankle.

Yeah, you can always hack something together, but it's never going to be anywhere near on par with a proper SteamVR-compatible HMD. Even Wii MotionPlus is at least 100% more inaccurate than Vive controllers.

It's basically impossible for VR to fall off considering that sales have already been lower than expected. It'll grow steadily, and not as fast as the big players in the market expected it to, but it'll grow none the less. The Pimax 8K kickstarter is already nearly at 1.6 million, and more manufacturers are noticing.

I had to answer that I don't use my VR setup much, but not because I'm disappointed. I have an Oculus DK1, but don't have a computer powerful enough to run a consumer release headset. Money to get one is also an issue, but I am very interested. The few games that still support my DK1 are fun, though Race the Sun is kinda hard through the screendoor effect of a low resolution headset.

Where’s the option to vote on ‘I bought one and sold it because I don’t like it’ ?

VR is more of a gimmick than the 3D on the 3DS.

Says anyone completely ignorant of the hardware, software, and underlying technologies. VR has already provided massive performance boosts to traditional gaming through new rendering techniques. So I guess higher FPS is "just a gimmick" too, JFC.

I own a Cardboard, but don't use it much tbh.
Don't get me wrong, though. It's really interesting when I do.

I have to admit, I'm *very* interested in VR.
I'm also very far from being able to afford a good VR headset.

I do wish high-end VR was accessible to more people through a lower price point, but I guess the passage of time will manage to take care of that. Rift + Touch is down to $399, so that's not too bad, it's just a matter of building a PC that will do a decent job of driving it. Can probably be done for around $600 - $700. ~$1100 total cost, so still up there. I used part of my tax return for Vive, and I had already built a PC not long before.

VR as a concept is Great, i tried it and i liked it (although i had motion sickness and all but nothing bad..anyway...) its a great concept and a fun thing, but i dont like the idea of that much emersion, thats a bit to far. When it comes to gaming im more of phisical controller, regular screen dude..now i like inovations and advancments like wireless controller, differnt way to controll and other varioations, of controlls, screens, and some funky stuff, the variations of classic means of game play, new in old so to say, but vr takes it to far and proves that people want to escape reality even more..in future they will be hoocked up to a brain and in far far future they would live in a game...to far is to far. so i like the tech, concept and idea, and it looks cool, but i will never acept it as regular gaming.
