    @Dio Vento

As you've explained several times before, RR/SS has the opponent Pokémon slightly overleveled to accommodate the lack of EVs for Trainer AI teams. NS/UM, on the other hand, has the opponents fairly balanced in both levels and stats with the player's team. However, at least in my opinion, I thought it was more atmospheric in RR/SS. Even though they technically weren't, they felt stronger, simply because they were almost always at a higher level compared to you. This, in turn, gave more incentive to try and beat them, along with a better feeling of reward when you won.

What I'm wondering is if it'd be possible to combine the features of both; slightly overleveled like RR/SS, while also including the EVs and improvements that NS/UM brought over. I completely understand if this isn't feasible; I'm sure it'd take an unprecedented amount of work to get all the calculations and such for something I'm guessing most players wouldn't fully appreciate. I just think it'd be nice to have the atmosphere of RR/SS combined with the difficulty and improvements from NS/UM for your final send-off 3DS mod.

It would be very easy to curve PuM/SnS to be three or so levels above the player. The "problem" is that Gen VII uses the (amazing) Gen 5 experience formula, which gives boosted experience when the player is underleveled. If I increase the levels of enemy Trainers, the player's growth becomes higher, causing a positive feedback loop and causing the player to hit Level 100 before even finishing Poni Canyon.

I played the Gen 6 and 7 mods and don't notice any significant change in difficulty. My first playthrough of Umbra Moon was brutal due to a poor team and the fact they were wilds. On Nova Sun I used perfectly bred pokemon, as I did for Star Sapphire, and between those two weren't many difficulty differences. But I guess that experience mechanic mentioned for Gen 7 probably made it slightly easier, but that's beyond anyone's control.

I mentioned the trainer AI being slightly smarter, so just take advantage of that? The mods are highly playable and definitely made SuMo better.

I could be mistaken but I think op said they don't intend to give a date. It'll probably be a while though I assume since I think they said they only release full versions rather than beta/early access type. Here's hoping sometime this year.

Installing the ROM hack is easy!
First, hack your 3ds according to http://3ds.guide. You might need to buy a flashcart, I recommend this one. The instructions at 3ds.guide are very simple to follow.
Once you have the 3DS hacked, all you need to do is download Umbra Moon or Nova Sun and copy them to your SD card, then start Sun or Moon and they'll be the hacked version.

I'm really excited to start work on them, and Kaphotics' PK3DS already has near full support according to his Twitter.

Make sure you're using the latest version of Luma, with Boot9strap. If you're using Arm9loaderhax still, follow this guide.
Then, make sure your copy of Sun or Moon are up to date.
Finally, hold Select while booting your 3DS and enable the option "enable game patching".

Once you've done those things, you just need to copy the "luma" folder from the downloads for Nova Sun or Umbra Moon onto the root of your SD card, and it will turn your Sun or Moon into Nova Sun / Umbra Moon!

Let it merge and overwrite. DON'T delete your old Luma folder!

You don't need to back up the Luma folder, just merge the luma folder from the download onto your SD card.

Honestly, vanilla USUM can be a bit challenging wtihout the Exp. Share and the battle mode on set, but I find it almost insulting that most trainers have only one Pokemon. Just one. This hack can't came soon enough. It's probably too much to ask but an ETA would be nice to know. I'm willing to put my current playthrough on hold until then. Cheers, TC.

I'm losing far more than I expected, I just made it to the first battle with Guzma and I only have 4 pokemon. Unintentionally handicapping myself, namely because I haven't found good wilds (granted I don't spend much time looking). I don't evolve mons until they learn all their good moves, since they get them earlier than evolved versions. So my team is currently Staryu, Litten, Zorua, and Jolteon (the only one that needed an early evolution and my main man Looker hooked me up with a Thunder Stone). All but Staryu are level 39, so I'm at least 5 levels ahead of the trainers at this point, but maybe that handicap, lack of variety in my team probably accounts for it. At this point I may be resorting to Lunala being in the team. When playing the games without bred mons, I always get a full team by the second gym, but this is definitely different. And most definitely, if I had a well planned out bred team, I'd clean through this game a lot quicker.

In the end, the silver lining is I basically made it challenging for myself, which is what you kind of have to do in these recent main series titles. I will still argue that the AI is slightly smarter than the original Sun/Moon.

My current team is Hawlucha, Munchlax, Magnemite, Noibat, Mr. Mime and Torracat. Just arrived to the second island a while ago. Been doing fine so far. I want just a bit more of a challenge though.

Please don't use this thread to discuss playing through pirated vanilla Ultra Sun / Moon.

Can you make that in your USUM jack opponents don't use mega Evo before you can use them? It decreased the enjoyment for me at least

Would it be better discussing it post-release? I did it in trying to highlight areas of the games' overall difficulty, and give somewhat an idea of what you're in for.

But it's your thread, so fine.
