People need to forget about the whole "Hardcore system for hardcore gamers" and "Kiddie system for the kiddies" stigma surrounding given consoles - there's nothing innately "hardcore" or "kiddie" about the PSVita or the 3DS and the only thing games from different genres aimed at diversified age groups introduce is variety. There's nothing wrong in releasing a pets game for the PSVita much like there wasn't anything wrong with releasing Resident Evil on the 3DS - all the stereotypes are just in the gamer's head.

There's no disagreement there. Hardware is hardware, though the 3DS does lend itself towards gimmickyness.

In any case, hardware aside I still find the announcement of Vita Pets to be somewhat odd. The Vita is nearly a year and a half old in the West; this entire time Sony has pitched the system and its games as a "core gamer" platform, the same as they do the PS3. Consequently Pets is a far more casual game than anything else Sony has done on the Vita thus far. Which isn't to knock Pets itself, but since the Vita isn't currently established as a casual system I'm not entirely sure who they're expecting to buy it. Though not impossible, it would be very odd (and difficult) to pivot the Vita towards casuals this far into its lifecycle. This is a game that would have made much more sense as a launch window game.
