Gaming Placing a Super Mushroom on top of another item in Super Mario Maker?

So I was going through the changelogs when I came across this:

A mushroom can now be placed on top of any other powerup, granting the player the mushroom if Small Mario, and the other powerup if any other form of Mario.

However, I couldn't replicate it in-game. Any specifics on how it's done? (If have the latest update BTW so that shouldn't be the culprit.)
