That's a pretty big box even if it is close. The 3DS isn't that much bigger than a DSL/DSi.

And I don't think the DSL box was that big.

Now that I think about it, it does come with a charging cradle. Maybe that's why it is so big?

The charging cradle is barely bigger than the 3DS. Probably Nintendo just likes to waste cardboard

It's a presentation box. (Hence the "For Display Only" sticker.) I seriously doubt that is the final build of the box. Besides if the box is bigger, it must mean it has more stuff in it right. xD

I can kinda see nintendo's reasoning here , but i cannot see this being the final box , i worked in well known supermarket in the uk for a while every game , laptop box in the shop was huge , because they and nintendo know if it is small then it is likely to get overlooked especially in terms of display anyway it does not matter about the retail box , because that is likely to be as small as the DSI or even Dslite they in theory could package the 3DS with the charge station attached this way the can reduce the boxes size and keep it small. also it is important to remember the larger the box the more it costs to make in first place.

At the Gamestop down the street, there's like a hundred of these boxes.

It probably won't be the official box though. The picture on the back of the box shows the old 3DS (Old analog nub color), so I'm guessing they will change that. Also, it says "For Display Only" so it could just be a box advertising. It's not necessarily the box it will come in.

Either way, it looks awesome.
