So I picked up a fat 360 the other day and figured I should dust off my copies of San Andreas and Republic Commando. These are both on the backwards compatibility list from MS and I have updated the 360 (via USB) but neither will work. The 360 recognises the disc but says it's incompatible. I don't really know what else to do. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Most of the time, from what I remember, the 360 usually downloads a small patch for said game. Your 360 most likely needs to be connected to the internet in order for the games to start working.

Have you got a HDD attached to it?
Have you bought the HDD for cheap from eBay or did you purchase it from a retailer?

Seems to me you're missing the Xbox emulator.

I think it might be because they stopped supporting the original sanandreas port for the original Xbox on the Xbox live store since it used to be purchasable digitally,so there might of been a update needed for it which was obviously removed, but got replaced with a mobile like port with enhanced textures

I'm still playing GTA SA on me 360 that's connected to live.
Both GOD and original disc.

It's likely due to OP not having a official HDD attached to the console.

I've got two genuine 20Gb drives. Neither came with the console, one I borrowed of my brother who played my actual copy of Republic Commando on his 360 with that same drive. A local shop lent me the other one.

I've tried it both drives and get the same result except the one from the shop adds "X: 2699.0 B: 1884.0" to the box I posted a picture of yesterday.

I could just get the old Xbox out and use that but I prefer the 360's controller and it has a VGA lead not the shameful composite output of the old one.

Both discs are scratch free?
Atleast, scratch free as in no obvious scratches?

I'd say try and inject the Xbox emulator into the harddrive.
Otherwise try the one of your brother.

They're not immaculate to be fair, but not bad. I've got worse 360 discs that play fine if that means anything?

I'll try different combos of console/HDDs/games and see what happens.

Are non-genuine HDDs known for causing problems? I've got a 250Gb third party one on it's way from eBay is all...

Thank you.

Yup, 3rd party drives don't come with the emulator partition in place.
You'll have to inject it manually then.

I can't link to a guide but if you google "digiex xbox partition 2" you should come across a tut + emulator partition.

Make sure you download the 250 GB version of Xplorer360 and inject it with that.
