Hacking old3DS xl(al9h) to new3DS xl system transfer

So I am picking up a new 3ds xl today and I already have a old 3ds xl with al9h/luma/hardmod. I want to system transfer to the new 3ds. How should I go about doing that safely? Should I hardmod/downgrade the new 3DS xl 1st or anything special?

Follow 3ds.guide/DSiWare-Downgrade so that you can mod the N3DS. Otherwise if you system transfer now then want to mod it later you will lose all your data (since you'll have to system transfer a second time from the old 3DS and have to format the N3DS - losing your data).
