Hi tempers,

Recently I ordered a GBA with a bootleg Pokemon Crystal version. I knew it was bootleg because it's a GBA cartridge, Not a GBC one. It went for 15,- second hand, so I bought it off the guy who was selling it and after a few days it arrived.
Exited, I opened the package. It was a purple/blue gameboy advance, with the bootleg version of the game in it. I tried turning the console on, but it wouldn't. I opened the battery compartment and saw that it was empty, so I stole some from my GB and stuck 'em in. I flipped the switch and... nothing. It wouldn't turn on. I already suspected this, but nevertheless I still was a tad dissapointed. I proceeded with the game. I grabbed my beaten-up GBA SP from my childhood of the shelf, and inserted the game. What I was met with, unsettled me. The first screen, was a splash screen with the text: Pocket monsters, by Reddiamond. The next one was a still image of Ash and his friends running away from something. Then, the game launched. It's a fighter game... The fighters' head is replaced with that of Pickachu, but his eyes are red and there seems to be blood dripping from them. I don't know which game this is a mod of, so you are all welcome to help me out here.
Look in the thumbnail for the pictures.

Also, the game shuts itself off after a minute of not touching the buttons.

This seems awfully close to one of those cringy, poorly made creepypasta's.

Looks like a hacked NES (?) ROM with an emulator on a cart with a splashscreen

Meh.
That said, you should investigate why the GBA doesn't work. Maybe it's something simple.

probably the bootleg is a port not emulator
Doubt it. I've purchased several copies of bootleg carts that were basically NES games with an emulator. You literally don't need to modify anything, just add the ROM and you're done. PocketNES was the emulator, if I remember correctly. I checked that when I dumped it with my DS lite.

Porting something takes far more effort than taking some poor sap's open source emulator and modifying it slightly

Again, PocketNES is the emulator used by a bunch of bootlegs I bought.

Alright, the seller won't take it back nor refund it.
This is what he said:
Mvg

Translated:

Hello, I tested the gameboy here, before I sent it and it worked. The game was clearly shown in the image and what you see is what you get. I've bought the same way once. It is one's personal responsibility to research for what kind of game it is. I won't take it back, especially since I know that the gameboy always worked and thus something went wrong during shipping or something happened by your hand. I hope you understand. With kind regards.

It reminds me of a pirate version of Kirby"s Nightmare in Dreamland called "Kirby Red Diamond" and it wasn"t more than just Kirby"s Adventure running in PocketNES with an splash screen of Kirby before the actual game started playing, and that also because the pirates went cheap it didn"t hold saves.
