The corner in that dark alley.
I noticed that I don't automatically go to https://www.gbatemp.net unless I specifically type in the https in my URL. Has this been done intentionally?

In your basement Dick Size: 5 meters.
I don't think so, they probably just forgot. You can get the HTTPS Everywhere extension though for your browser to automatically do so.

They probably just have to configure the server to redirect to HTTPS.

Personally I just use HTTPS everywhere since I've had this issue on other sites as well.

It has been asked a few times before, though not on this page of suggestions so that is OK (how one would search for that with the limitations I do not know).

It is a deliberate choice. There for those that want it, not autoredirect for those that can't have it (for instance those behind the great firewall, like those in China where they make a sizeable portion of the mod chips, hacks and flash carts) and for those that truly care (it is just a forum after all) there is https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere .
