Also, to anyone who is going to get replacement shells and tackle this project, a few words.
The switch back cover is insanely easy to do. 6 small phillips screws, and 4 tri-wing screws come out, then the back pops off. Switch out the parts from the original back (kickstand parts, game cover part), snap the new cover back on, and replace the screws. A 10 minute job at the most.
The joycons are hard to do, and you need to have patience to do them. With everything being so small, it makes it a bit more complicated (depending on your hand size). But they are simple to do overall, as long as you know what order they get removed/put back. It's 4 tri-wing screws, then the joycons come apart, then it's a bunch of connectors and ribbon cables, and a few small phillips head screws to remove. Make sure to remove the thin black "gasket" from the original joycons (once you remove the control stick, you will see it), and transfer it to the new shells. Also, getting the 2 springs in the right place and the ZR/ZL button back on will take patience, or maybe it's easier with smaller hands, but it was a bit of a pain for me. Took about 2 hours in all to do both joycons, but that was with taking a break in between doing them both.
