Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

It might also be the Wii u version slammmed on the NS screen?

Don't know. The only thing that seemed anything remotely like a poor framerate to me were the blades of grass, but they look the same when displayed on the television - so I don't know. I can't see them releasing it with some sort of drastic drop in framerate between tv and on the go.

Pretty cool concept. Although I worry about the slide on joysticks and kids. But then again my kids havent broken any of the gamepads on the wii us yet and I keep hearing about adults breaking those. Maybe its not gonna be as bad as it looks. (Slide controllers)
And as small as it is I will venture to say heavy games will have to be shelved for this thing.
I would doubt it could handle gta online very well. But time will tell.
Well, you look at the latest Tegra processors, and they're all more powerful than the PS3/XB360. GTA Online was launched originally on PS3/XB360, so if you're worried about the Switch not running it, don't be. That Tegra processor will handle it just fine. You'll of course have to be connected to the internet, so no playing GTA Online out and about (unless tethering), but I see no hurdles.
If you mean future heavy-hitters, I too have my doubts. We'll just have to wait and see how strong a Tegra they packed in there and how well their scalable tech is, and if we'll be able to boost power.

I may be hard for me to explain. Basically, the whole idea of that patent was boost power wireless or wired by another device. If they wanted to, they can use standby consoles to wireless boost other consoles that are active and online.
Wait, are you saying that someone else's Switch would turn on and process for yours across the internet?

350 Euros is still quite a lot of money. Still prices should drop as time goes on i suppose. If it goes to the same price as a 3DS and has a good game catalogue i might pick one up in a few years. But no rush at all as i'm not a fan of the design at all.

They probably could make those "Joy-con" a bit bigger. Apparently, there are still talk about how the analog sticks are going be place. I prefer if it was like the Wii Us.

Nobody know about GB one at all because it was only a rumor. Don't trust the rumor! Anyway... Nvidia team talked about Nintendo Switch here:

https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/10/20/nintendo-switch/

I don't know if It is Tegra 1, 2, 3 or the newest version 4. We will have to wait and see.

Tegra 4 isn't the newest. Here are the Tegra versions so far. I'll fill in additional devices in a few minutes but the devices I have in my list should give you an idea of where things are headed.

Tegra 2 (Motorola Xoom tablet)
Tegra 3 (OUYA)
Tegra 4 (Madatz Mojo)
Tegra K1 (Shield 8" Tablet)
Tegra X1 (Shield TV)

But there are console specific titles to each console (think Halo). So it still boils down to software companies not having balls or creativity to design for each. Why is having a game on the Nintendo that is "watered down" such a bad thing if it brings the same sort of enjoyment? I personally hate Halo, but I know many love it. I just don't believe keeping up with the Joneses is not the most beneficial the the whole. As I've said before, I wouldn't buy a PS4 even if I had that kind of cash lying around because it just doesn't offer enough console only games to warrant it. Same for XBO. But I guess I'm in the minority.

I believe the original argument was just about how they want Nintendo to make more money and be successful, yet they are limiting themselves when looking at the WHOLE gaming market. What you say is understandable and I agree, you got the great games, you don't need high extended 4k graphics. Unfortunately, that's not what the general public thinks, so they're skipping out on becoming more successful and getting more great games.

Why is it that the more I read about this console, the more disappointed I get?
Because a lot of people saw it and jumped to conclusions about what it would have. Now slowly reality is settling in and people realize that basically nothing has been confirmed yet. Only people who should be excited atm is people who want to console game but are on the move a LOT. in my opinion anyway.
