How exactly does making the system unusable without an Internet connection "future proof" it? If anything, it will prevent the system from being usable in 20 years. (See aforementioned Sega Genesis example.)

Future proof for cloud based services.
Not completely cripple it.

Pretty sure you can enable the use of "cloud" services (read: 1960s mainframes and dumb terminals but with a buzzword) without preventing use of the system offline.

Technology now is moving faster then back in the 60's when the early mainframes where developed.

Which means jack shit.

Is there some particular reason why you insist on preventing people from using devices without Internet connections? Do you think that somehow holds back "progress"? (when in reality, it's worthless apps that are holding back progress)

Trump is holding back progress. In fact he causes regression

I'm not insisting on preventing people from using devices without Internet.
What they do with their devices is their problem.
I was merely explaining it through the eyes of Microsoft, who was looking at the broad majority.

1) Cloud hasn't even proven itself and has a long way to go. Cloud gaming ,as it is now, is barely surviving.
2) Cloud, isn't an excuse to force people online, when I device can be used offline.
3) Cloud has too many cons, for it to be the only way people play.
4) People didn't buy a Xbox 1 or any of the game consoles for a cloud device.

You're comparing a server sending a signal to users to log off, to a real life circuit board getting the signal to block a SD card reader

Shut the fuck up. You actually don't know what you are talking about.

What are you talking about? When did the suggestion exclude the use of a server? Why do you think he meant a "real life circuit board getting the signal to block"? That doesn't even make any sense. Clearly if it was implemented it would be at OS level. The device pings Nintendo's server and if it doesn't get a response then access to the SD is blocked. Perfectly feasible. Unlikely, but totally possible.

yea, i wasnt understanding them, saying "you cant cut acces to the sd card, its hardware" but there afre virus on internet that block your usb acces, so... yes its possible to block acces to some hardware with software change

Holy shit. Can this thread be locked? The amount of cancer being spread here is outright terrifying.

And Microsoft is now looking into preventing people from running real programs on Windows 10, instead forcing them to use worthless apps.

Sounds like a brilliant plan, almost as brilliant as "Always Online".
Your misconception is confusing. It's a version of Windows 10. Not something to replace windows 10. Kind of like RT, but that bombed.
