1st question: As wide as the video in spoiler 1. Luckily no squeaking as that would have annoyed me enough to return it for a refund.
I only get slide pad and touchscreen smudges (which is not an option), so I chose "Smudges from touch screen only" for the 2nd question as I'm not sure if the slide pad smudge appeared before I applied a screen protector. The touchscreen has actually scratched my top screen protector so it has grooves in it (which scratches VERY easily, I should get a better one but I doubt I'd be able to apply it as perfectly as I applied this one), but didn't manage to scratch my screen before I put on a screen protector. The slide pad hasn't scratched it though, just smudged it.

A tip for people with the wobbling hinge is to get a crystal case. Mine keeps the hinge in place perfectly.

Cosmo Black Asian model CS400----

i've had mine for about two weeks now, and so far now wobble on the hinge, but i'm careful when i open/close it; no sudden pulling, and i let it snap into place gently. lotsa smudges though, so i miss my XL's matte finish

i have sweaty hands too, to make matters worse. wipeable, but i'd have preferred matte finish over gloss any time.

My hinge is as wide as the video in spoiler 1, and has many smudges - D-pad, buttons and touch screen lines.

I have a loose left hinge @_@ The analog stick and the bottom screen frame always leave lines/smudges on the top screen. I have an Aqua Blue Asian 3DS CS7XXXXXXXX

closest video is video 1, but no squeaks, and holds the default position nicely

top screen has slight smudges where it meets the bottom screen when closed

CW1014 got launch day

It seems primarily that batches CEF10x and CW10x are having problems. the '10x' seems to be key here.

Had mine since launch

Serial # - CW7002******

Hinge is slightly loose. Not so much as video 1, and definitely not like video 2.
Left hinge moves slightly. Makes no squeaking when opening/closing.
Any smudges that are on the unit, inside and out, easily wipe away, including on the top screen from the bottom screen's outer molding.

None of these have been a problem for me, and I take good care of my 3DS.

OK I've voted ...

'There is no screen movement WHATSOEVER and screen locks neatly into place.'

- I'm guessing the second question refers to smudge marks on the top screen.

Had to choose 'Smudges from touch screen only'
BUT I've also got smudge mark from analog stick as well ( a circular smudge) - but none of the others (D-Pad etc)

I've got movement as far as spoiler 1, a loose left hinge and I chose smudges from touch screen and buttons, but I've only smudges from the analog nub and the touch screen, there wasn't any option for that.

I believe the loose left hinge is because the 3DS only has one hinge (metal) on right, and a cheap plasticky one on the left.

hinge problem not so bad; i chose spoiler 1 video but it's a little less than that.
i get joystick smudge, but smudging on both screens doesn't matter to me anymore now that i have screen protectors placed.

Oh, crap. 3dS=CEF101 and after seeing a colleague's 3DS system, I can guarentee spoilers' 1 and 2 hinges are NOT good. There should be NO give.
