Hardware New3DS Xl turns off with a popping sound

I got a New3DS XL for repair in today.
Completely unmodded device, only a few days old.

It turns on, power-led turns blue, then it turns off with a popping sound.

I checked all connections of the ribbon cables and wether the wifi antenna was properly seated.
Everything checks out.

I am completely stumped at this point.

Usually it would be best to just return it and get a new one, but this one was on 9.8.

Based on my own research, this is common when there's a fault with the ribbons, most commonly the speakers and camera ribbons. Sometimes it's because the ribbons have come loose from excessive opening and closing, sometimes it's because of a micro tear in said ribbons which usually means they need replacing.

Edit: I've also heard it can happen with one of the shoulder buttons somehow shorting out of the sticky pad on the ribbon comes loose.

Thank you for your reply, but i doubt i have the means to actually do anything about those issues.
I guess he will just have to return it and hope for another hackable firmware version.
