Hacking New to flash carts, have a question

Ok so, I never had a DS and I'm planning to get a 3DS around next week or something. I want to get an Acekard 2i so I can enjoy some DS games but then I saw that I need a DS in order to update it for it work on the 3DS.
My question is, if I buy a pre-patched card such as this:

Will I still need a DS? Or is it ready to go on the 3DS? (On the current update anyway 3.0.6, seeing as a new one is coming out next Wednesday)

Also, after I get it working, I can keep updating it with just a 3DS right? Aslong as I update the card first and then the console.

Personally if I were you, I would get a different cart such as the SuperCard DSTwo. It's about twice as much as the one you list here, but it's definitely worth it if you can afford it. Not only can it run GBA ROMs 90% perfectly (and SNES ROMs about 60% perfectly) unlike other carts, but you dont have to worry about being permanently screwed if you forget to update it before you update the 3DS. Just my $0.02
