Do you name characters when given the choice?

I used to a long long time ago (went through FF2 on the SNES with Cecil renamed to something completely different) but got really tired of trying to think up names so now I just go with default and cringe when there isn't default.

Though sometimes to goof around I start a new file with names changed, like for some reason a couple years ago I kept renaming Link to LLCoolJ. I don't know why it amused me, but it did.

Used to be fun to use bad words and stuff, but now too often they put in filters and stuff so no FUCKO anymore.

I always choose the default names or look if there is a predefined name for a character if the game don't have a default option and force you to input a name(like the Zelda example). I think like "hey you, what's your name?? Link?? well since now your name will be Lunk, deal with it" so I don't think is very nice to be changing the names of characters. on top of that I always struggle to think names and start looking names of other characters and end up always with the same names.
so I came to a consensus and always use my nickname, but most of the time games allow up to 8 characters so I need to cut my name and use "Toshi" for male characters and "Saki" for female ones. if a surname is required I input my nicksurname(that word exist??) "Ikeda". my FeMC in persona is named that way, "Saki Ikeda".
I really appreciate when games have a pool of random names to choose from for games where you need to come up with names for thousands of characters, like in the Disgaea series and Conception II. in which cases I hit the random button a couple of times until a name that I like show up.

I always use my name on protagonists, and my girl friend's name on pet/female characters.
I would name the evil-boss with my father's or brother's name (if I can get a chance to name!!).

I usually name my character Chavo.
If it's a team kind of game, I name the main character Chavo and then pick subsequent ridiculous names for the team, usually after Anime's.
For example, in my recent Nuzcloke run of Pokemon X, I'm naming all of my Pogey's after the lead characters of Kill la Kill

It depends on the kind of game. With MMOs, I'm able to be more creative because of higher character limits and/or spaces. Well, I'm not actually being creative, since I end up using names from video games (Like Tron Bonne) or pornstars (my main in GW2 is Mandy Morbid. Google only if 18+). In every SMT game that requires both a first and last name, I pick Teisel Bonne. I don't know why, but I rather enjoy that name. In games that only have first names for the main character, I choose Weiss or Teisel for male characters, and Morrigan or Lilith for female characters. However, in games like Final Fantasy where there's a whole team of people you can name, I usually leave it default. I only have so much creativity, guys. I can't name seven people.
