Although MT never supported raw images.I can't even format in exFat (using winXP).
I like the single ROM image written to SD better than multiROM (I can focus on a single game until I complete it, and I don't have that many games I'm interested in anyway).
Gateway supports both FAT and Image format. That would be a good idea for MT-card to support that format again as alternative to exFAT.

Pressing select and the list pops up, would they be able to make the button trigger something else? As in a cheat menu or something like that in the future? Or is that stuff somehow hardware related?

You can. Windows released a update that added exFat support.
